Haha, Willow is safe and dry. She got me a few times with some nice sharp pecks. Ouch. As far as I know, nothing has hatched. I'm gonna wear some gloves tomorrow and look for any pipped or cracked eggs.
BBQ is doing well. Ohh, when I unwrapped her foot it was so cool. The infection has already started to draw to the surface, and so it made a "volcano." The scab was the "lava" at the top, and her skin was the side.
She has a really bad lice problem. I sprayed her (quite pathetically) with some diluted Permethrin. I'm probably going to give her a bath of it in a week or two.
Can I bath her, or spray her with Permethrin with wounds on her shoulders and her bumblefoot?
I put vaseline on her shoulder wounds to try and prevent the Permethrin from getting on it.
Really glad Willy is doing well, you can candle the eggs again to see how they are progressing. When Henny hatched her I read somewhere saying to mark the air cell so you can see if it was growing. Can’t wait to see what hatches for you 🥰

I am glad that BBQ’s foot seems to be getting better, that’s wonderful! Well done keep up the good work.

Lice: try not to get any wounds sprayed it could really sting. Spray under wings and around their vent and neck. Do not forget to spray the roost and run areas. Get rid of the old bedding and use fresh.

Saturday Caturday

Missy waiting for me to head outside so she also can go outside.

Anyone ever get chicks from Hoover Hatchery? I think they are in Iowa (IA is Iowa right?).
IA is Iowa. Hoover supplies many (if not most) of the chicks available in feed stores, I think. I do know there are threads on here specific to hatcheries. There are reports about most of the bigger places: customer service, health of chicks, accuracy of order, etc. I haven't gotten any birds directly from them. Not sure if the feed store birds came from them or other places (the closest one gets birds from several places.

My girls came from Hoovers. They supply most of the TSC stores around here. And if you order online from TSC they come from Hoovers. Overall my experience has been good. My colored egg layers only lay medium eggs but that is fine with me. All mine arrived alive and healthy. I had them vaccinated for Cocci and Marek’s. If you order through TSC you can call them the next day to request the vaccinations if you want them, no extra charge.

Tina has been in hospice care for the past week. She stays in the house. My husband puts her on his lap or in a tub with bedding that he carries around with him.

I think he is extremely upset.

Today Tina can't move anymore. He is so upset that he barely talked to me.

A screenshot during video chat from 2 days ago. Poor Tina.

Oh I am so sorry to hear she is nearing the end. I am sure your husband must be extremely saddened. But I have to say that one could not ask for better care then what you and your husband have given her.

❤️

Here the big supplier to Ontario is usually Frey's Hatchery. The one I was going to get chicks from for Sophia but ended up deciding not to.

Peavey Mart used to be TSC here; but TSC has since left Canada and Peavey Mart purchased all their stores. Same produce, suppliers, etc just a new store name.

I really liked Peavey Mart in Peace River when I was working out that way last winter, they had a huge poultry section - which is where I bought my soldier fly larva treats from. I am going to see if they can get that brand in here in Ontario.

I was just talking to my pup about candling the eggs to see progress.

My coop doesn't have a "building" part. They have a place to roost, and they have a covered area, but they don't get locked up somewhere. They just stay un their large dirt floor (with a few shavings) run.
We are going to be working on the coop a bunch today I hope.
My whole family had made an agreement. (eggcept my brother. He hates chickens) We will not start working on the Goat Pen/House until my coop is finished.
My brother is mad, but I am thrilled.

Sure, I want goats. I REALLY want goats. But chickens are MY PRIORITY. My mom loves the chickens, but she is more of a guinea person.
And I love the guineas, and I have some that I REALLY want to keep safe! (unfortunately my most special one, Ridges, free-ranges) but the chickens are the most important thing to me. Well, besides my puppies and family... And my horses, Lenny and Pippa.

I ADORE my chickens, and while I think that goats are "smart" (haha they are just goofy. Makes it hard to see that they are) and cute, and they really do have personalities, they aren't the animals I have now.
I want to take care of the animals I have now, and I want them to be safe and happy. Sure, some, maybe all, are happy. I just don't think that having leaks going into your coop and where your chickens perch on a wooden box is the very best life.
So, I want to get my coop done, make it so that my babies (not the unhatched chicks, my guineas and chickens) can live their best life.
Ha, sorry that was a handful. I'm bored, and so I just decided to write a whole story.... I don't know if it makes sense.... sorry....
Basically I want to prioritize the health of the animals I already have by finishing a coop rather than build a home for animals that I don't have.
There. Now that's better.
