Dusting powder for your coop and run, no sense treating if they get reinfected.

Ivermectin to treat lice and mites. I bought the liquid stuff I give the horses, I can get it in a syringe for dosing one horse (liquid not paste), and then did the math for how much a chicken gets.

You will need to retreat in 14 days. And re-dust the coop and run.

You can do a search on BYC for dosing of ivermectin. Added benefit is your chooks get wormed.
Is the liquid for oral or topical use ?

With the heat index well over 100 on a daily basis, we added more ventilation to Cholo's house.
I was wondering about those of you in texas. My sister has been sending me reports. They hit 111 at their house a couple of days ago. Been pulling up the garden a month early, things died off fast.
My nephew was on the local all star team and they had to forfeit the first game in this last round (which they weren't told until after it was played,) because one of their players collapsed from the heat right before the game started.

Heat tax, three chickens!

No. If your older birds already have Marek's, or if you bring in a new bird with Marek's, or in other ways expose your chickens to Marek's, then the vaccinated chicks might catch Marek's (even though they are vaccinated), but they shouldn't get severe disease because the vaccination will protect them from more serious disease.
I don't think that any of my birds are vaccinated....

All of TSC's chicks (at least in the NE) are from Hoover Hatchery - and I have gotten chicks from TSC. Never purchased directly from Hoover, though.
The TSC's around here also have chicks from Hoovers. I've never bought chicks from TSC or from Hoovers. I know people who did and their chicks got sick and died.

Tina has been in hospice care for the past week. She stays in the house. My husband puts her on his lap or in a tub with bedding that he carries around with him.

I think he is extremely upset.

Today Tina can't move anymore. He is so upset that he barely talked to me.

Goodbye Tina. 😭😭
I am so sorry for you all :( Lots of :hugs for all of you.

Ok everyone we are 1 hour away from start of silkie incubation. I just evicted Perdita off her nest so she can go eat. While she was off I tweaked it a bit for my liking. I added a layer of cushion sawdust to the bottom. I also added a tad more fresh hay for her and put the "fake" egg back. She was running back to the nest as I came inside. She has 1 hour to get comfy and fix things to her liking and I am swapping out eggs. I think she will be a good momma. Been broody for 2 weeks now. The first week I kept tossing her out and she was fighting me refusing to break. This last week I gave her a store egg incase I chose to use her for the silkie eggs. Once she got her egg she stuck like glue. Stayed on for 2 days and since comes off daily now. Come on Perdita girl, you have a important job for you now. I knew there was a reason I kept getting drawn to you last fall when you hatched.
