My rooster is overheating I brought him inside

It 95°F here and feels so much hotter in the backyard! I set up a mister stand to mist around the table we have in the yard- they lay under that as the shade from the yard umbrella is around there also. I got the mister just for them...... they don't want to be around it

Maybe I'll crack them (one at a time in a bowl of course) and freeze them for this winter when the laying stops.

Up to 87 here and we just finished our outdoor chores. There's more we could do, but this fat lady has had enough sweating this week.

More Eenie drama. Both of Sheba's marked eggs have bit the dust. Found them out of the nest, room temp at best. We didn't bother to candle them, since this was the 2nd time out of the nest for one of them. Then the real craziness began...

First, I caught Manny giving Eenie (on her nest) a few good pecks through the curtain! I ran him off, but a bit later caught him in the nest box with her. I managed to get him to leave again and noticed he'd scratched down to the concrete. Could he be looking for the mice? The bwack bwack bwaGOk of both Manny and Meanie after I ran him out was deafening. They carried on for ages.

Anyway, later, I caught him there again. That time Meanie took the opportunity to horn in too. She's laid today...so she has no business in there again.

What on earth would make a roo sit in the nest box? I'm more than a little worried that they're trying to force Eenie off the nest. Maybe that is why eggs are being kicked out? She's down to three.

I'm worried now about the plan to give her chicks. Maybe she's just too submissive to protect them if the other's don't want them?

After the issues I have with my poor silkies I keep them separated from the others so no one can harass them; when I shoved the chicks under them I made darn sure no one could get at them - now, with Sophia I put her in the large animal crate with her chicks in the Summer House I just completed.

During the day past couple days I have let Sophia have the run of the Summer House and keep the others out.

At night I go and put Sophia back in the crate with her chicks, so that the older chicks can go roost in the Summer House for the night.

I won’t let Sophia run at large with her brood until they are 2 weeks old. By then they will be able to run away fast from the likes for Marty!

Holy Dinah! It’s humid here but not overly hot, it’s 79F feels like 90F with the humidity (61 percent humidity).

The chooks are now all on the barn, the horses are in so the chickens have to come in .

Mine hated the mist too. I tried to cool them down by misting the run...nope. They ran inside every time. Mist inside the coop...ran out.

I think we'll candle tonight. If we have even one possible chick, we'll figure out how to separate her. If not...don't know what we'll do.
