No luck with Xzit. Still acting broody. I have her in the house. The coop is way too hot during this heatwave

hahaha - in a few monthsCome here and fix my grapevines!
Yes I agree - unless you can keep her in the house the whole time.Xzit is broody. It’s too hot to set eggs here . I’m trying to talk her out of it,.
I would let them but they can't fly at all, and 30" is a bit high when you're only 6” tall! They so badly want to be grown up and sleep with the big ones.
such a sweet faceYes, she is just over a year old. We have 2 "low cost" spay/neuter places here, but they have been solidly booked since i started calling in February. Regular vets are charging almost 300.00 for a spay which is just not possible for us right now. I feel irresponsible for "letting" it happen, but she is a very good mama. Despite her still being somewhat wild she did choose to have them here, if in a nearly inaccessible spot in the garage.

Will have to go get some new pics for tax![]()
Yep - but rotten luck on my part with her being a he... darn it.He's absolutely beautiful!
Don't look so surprised @featherhead007 - can't keep them all I would be truly 'ponypoor' then!Yep - I don't really care what they are, I won't be keeping any. Once they start laying I will sell them as started pullets.
Pooh’s voice has started to change. Just now she honked like a goose and startled the Pentagonists (including herself) so badly that they all scattered and hid in the bushes.
I think she thinks I can’t see her.

They seem like black Marans or black copper Marans.Introducing the current residents of Fluffy Butt Acres
As you can see from the front of the coop, we currently have 4 residents. Patsy, Lilly, Hattie & Jabber.

Patsy & Lilly have been here the longest and we ar enot really certain what kind of birds they are but they are likely Black Sex Links. Hattie and Jabber have just joined the flock this summer as they were chicks we got back in April. Here are their individual photos.
Patsy
She is our alpha hen and is extremely friendly. While not a big fan of being picked up she comes right up to you and will talk and visit.

Lilly is currently #2 in the pecking order and intends to stay there. She has become our little enforcer and she defends the flock from such terrors as squirrels, rabbits, doves, and most importantly, ducks.
