Hello FBA ! Trying to catch up as best as I can, I've missed quite a bit. I'm so glad I got the Aurora's tomato action

. And it also seems all the chicks are growing up so fast and quite a few expected or unexpected cockerel !
I also wanted to give an update on Léa's chicks, about which I asked you opinions on gender sometime ago. They have been weaned by Léa 8 days ago and are living their best free ranging lives as pre-teens. They already know the best hiding places from all the raptors we have and I can recognize their trill chick alarm call. I mentioned that 5 out of 6 had popped wattles at 25 days. Well, they are now 6 weeks and four days old, and three remain undetermined. Wattles and comb haven't grown or just a bit, and they are all the same size, apart from one huge black cockerel. I've been told that having many males in a hatch, added to having two adult roosters fighting for dominance, could lead some males to remain "hidden" to protect themselves.
I'm still hoping the female chick will have at least one female sibling from her hatch, so she will not be alone, as we will not keep the males.
A bit blurry but these are the three "unknown", along with the white cockerel.

The bigger black cockerel has turned out to be the most familiar, nosy, daring chicken we have ever owned. Too bad he has to go, he really makes us laugh with his antics.

@Ponypoor Fyi Kara and Lily, the cross Marans /Harko, have begun laying last week and for now they are laying once every two or three days, so very reasonably. The eggs are middle sized, Kara's is quite dark and Lily's lighter and speckled.
The two Leghorns, Nieva and Alba, believe that now Gaston is king of the flock they have acquired queenly status. The other hens strongly disagree. I'll confess, hoping this doesn't anger
@BY Bob, that they also irritate me a bit with their superior attitude (not to mention the way they fly over any type of fence

).

One last thing I wanted to let you know, is that since we discussed first aid kit, I have tried honey on a wound. Piou-piou who has only healed her mating wound a month ago, has now a smaller wound under her other wing

. Well, as I imagined, honey on a wounded chicken is far too sticky. All kind of dirt and debris stuck to it and she kept pecking at the wound and at the feathers to get it off, so it resulted being worse than nothing. I'm back to chlorhexidine, to switch it a bit from betadine which I've used for almost two months on her.
@Gigachad poultry Those pullets I mentioned I bought recently from a local breeder, and they turned out to be rather unhealthy. This breeder also sold blonde Piemontese. I hesitated getting those, as they would be the closest thing to a local breed for me. She gets them at the AG market in Saluzzo, and I ended up not buying them thinking I would be better off driving there directly some day if I really wanted some. I'm actually glad I didn't, seeing the state of the four pullets I got from her.
Looking at your pictures, they look bigger than I expected. How would they fare in the heat ? Do you free range them ?
Also, some of you may remember I wondered for a while if Chipie had mugellese origins..but seen how far we are from where they come from in Italy, it doesn't seem likely.
