How do you feel about it as a nesting spot? Sometimes you just know when something is right or not.
Well, I walked right past her 2-3 times looking for her the night she wasn't in the coop. At least 1 of those times I was within 3 feet of her and I was trying to look under the grass, too. She had come out earlier in the day and I'd seen the direction she came from so had a general idea of the area. In order to find her, I had to follow her back out and only found her because I watched the grass tops moving until she settled in. Hawks are the biggest concern right now and she's got that pretty well covered. Best guess for hatch date: last week of the month.

What an adorable chicken!
Yes, after hurricane Sandy I was trapped in the house by trees and live wires down across the drive. No power which meant no water (now I have the generator).
We did have warning so I had stockpiled a huge tub of clean water which was a huge help - as was the torrential rain which I collected in buckets.
Ten days later when the road opened, but I was still trapped, I hiked to the road avoiding the wires and climbing over the trees, and got a ride to the same motel where I showered and then watched TV for an hour and then showered again!
I can live without electric light but no running water is a massive pain.

Running water tax - Babs sunbathing in the 90 degree heat. No wonder she was panting later!

Feel appreciative RC? Kiss 💋 the plumber! :gig

I clearly have a lot to learn about wells. I had no idea there were different kinds!
Well, if you’re well enough to learn about wells, well-come to the school of wells. The curriculum is rather deep, so dip your thinking bucket real deep. 1. The Wellington style is…..,,, never mind I’d never be able to dig myself out of that joke! :smack

Not the best place to brood, in my opinion.

Well, this sucks! I was awoken by a huge house fire 🔥 next door. Smoke everywhere. So far, all the animals are safe , I’m inside the coop with my birds looking for embers that might light up nesting material. My hoses are running in the yard and I’m on standby. The fire trucks have just arrived. View attachment 3568746View attachment 3568747
Oh gosh, that is my biggest fear. I really hope that everyone is okay.

On a lighter (no pun intended, honestly) note, I didn't know that you had horses!
