I think she will be ‘ok’ but I am now seriously thinking of having her euthanized, I have been leaving the horses out overnight due to her falling over in her stall from her sleep issues. She doesn’t want to lay down to sleep as she can’t get back up easily, so she falls asleep standing up and falls over.Oh no! Will Truly be OK?

Nest updates. Saw both off nests yesterday, drink, food, bit of scratching, scurry back.
No one is sitting on the Lark/Indigo eggs, yet. Several are thinking about brooding. Storm's nest I'm leaving allows unless I haven't seen her for a couple of days (work makes that very possible); I'll "wander" past it then. She's well and truly committed.
Jessica's chosen box (in the coop) has been a drama matter again this year. I think we've all come to an understanding. As long as I leave 2 REAL eggs (fake aren't acceptable for this) in the nest box next to Jess, PITA won't throw her off the nest so she can make another deposit. PITA is living up to her acronym. She's the only one who will throw Jess off (Silver and Pear are the top spots and don't do so). PITA despises the fake eggs and will not lay in any nest with them in it, even if real eggs are ALSO in it.
While Jess was off the nest yesterday, I looked the eggs over. (No candling). I know (thank you PITA for your white eggs) they're laid at several different times. There's only 1 left marked from the beginning (a green egg) and I thought it was due yesterday. No external pips/cracks or sounds which I wouldnt expect if she's gotten off yet. Several days she's had eggs pushed out to only half covered with her feathers, soTweaking development some how? No idea. She's getting off the nest afternoons and PITA is laying in the next box over durning the mornings. At this point, I know development has occurred (candled a week ago) in at least some of the eggs, so not a clue as to hatch date now. She's still willing to sit and is only on day 22. Healthy, feisty, so in wait and see mode.
I believe so, I haven’t found anything that says otherwise, but I’m not an expert. It could be worth checking this info with folks on the illness forum. There’s this very old post about 8-week old chicks@ChicoryBlue, thank you. Should I give some Nutridrench afterward? I'd read that chicks, especially, need the thiamine.
Thank you! The chicks (Pip is one of them) are 8.5 weeks old. Same advice? I should have said how old the littles are.
Our neighbors have a gold laced Polish hen. She has been camera shy to this point.
Let us know how she is. Seems to me good to discuss this with Truly’s vet. Your feelings about her situation have changed? Could she fall and break something in the stall also, but it is a safer place to be if it happens?I think she will be ‘ok’ but I am now seriously thinking of having her euthanized, I have been leaving the horses out overnight due to her falling over in her stall from her sleep issues. She doesn’t want to lay down to sleep as she can’t get back up easily, so she falls asleep standing up and falls over.
Last night I just didn’t realize it would be so miserable weather wise. I am guessing she fell over and then couldn’t get up due to the slippery mud.
My fear is that she falls and breaks something and I don’t get to her till morning. I am going to have to talk with my veterinarian about this.
Ok well I better get cracking here and let the horses out, since we are under severe thunderstorm warnings I will have to bring them in later incase of lightning and possible tornadoes. I want Truly to get outside walking to see how she is. I gave her pain meds.
Thanks Bob!That is just wonderful to hear. I'm so glad it was a simple fix.![]()
Thanks for sharingI found this, so the dose seems dependent on how “severe” the outbreak is. Then there is a follow-up period, but both severe or moderate have the same number of days in treatment and follow up.
