😆 I don't know if I'll let another hatch for a bit. We'll try to break broodiness if we can. Although I'd love to see baby Shebas.

I've been considering getting rid of Manny. He's pretty. And while he's not friendly, he's also not a mean rooster. But I never wanted a rooster and he definitely overmates Sheba and Eenie. But there's no way I can eat him. So not sure what to do.

We had robins in our gutters. Hope they flew away before our latest storm.

They like grapes more than barley and hops! Makes perfect sense to me.

I begin to understand the low price for your rental property. That's bad. You mentioned moving. Hope you can do that.

All was well in the coop this morning. Mama and babies were scratching around. I reached in to clean the waterer and she made sure to keep them FAR from me. I want to hold a chick darnit! I definitely see how purchased chicks raised by a human would grow up to be friendlier.
Re: Broodies - I don't try to break my broodies - I just let them be; twice a day or so, I haul them off hte nest to eat, drink and poop. The only reason I gave Sophia babies was because she was refusing food and water and her comb was limp and flopped over, she looked miserable.

Once I gave her babies she was back to eating and her comb, while not red yet is perked upright. And is definitely happy and contented. She sure is a good mama :) I might let her raise chicks again next year if she goes broody again, just because she has been the least troublemaker our of all the broodies, and hasn't tried to eat me, and has learnt to not fight the others.

Re: Friendly chicks - Once they get out and about and know what treats are, don't worry they will become extremely friendly hahaha. Too friendly - right you little monsters - they are in my office again looking at me, I am waiting for the day they can fly up onto my desk - won't be long now! Yee gads they are cute :)

Re: Roosters - they do require specific facilities if you want to keep mums and babies and other birds separated. I have issues with Marty being over bred - I can't put an apron on her it's too hot, I am hoping she goes broody and sits in her nest box for a few weeks, regrows her feathers.

You might have 3 more pullets there to keep him happier - and if you're getting a bigger coop and run, then you can go get a few more hens. And now that you have seen other breeds you can choose what you want. Legbar, Polish, Bielefelder, Barred Rock, so many to choose from!

Eggs everywhere!

I was cleaning the eves troughs - and when I climbed up the ladder to check them these are what I found.View attachment 3578537View attachment 3578539View attachment 3578538

Not sure if a Mourning Dove or Blue Jay laid these, they are pink and they were warm so someone was sitting on them, but the location is rather sketchy!

I doubt an eves trough is a good place to lay eggs.
Just took a look over there and looks like a Mourning Dove - not your brightest birds in my opinion... but it is what it is.

Sure does suck! My condenser coil outside my house has a bullet hole in it now. It stopped working last night!
The sheriff said they were investigating vandalism cases locally.
In this friggin heat, me and my chooks are in peril!
Bullet hole? That's crazy - did you hear any shots fired?

My uncles truck got shot up - they are in Toronto - lots of gang troubles down there, drugs, illegal guns... And they dump the bodies up here it seems! A few every year get dropped in ditches.

Crazy Talk Tax

Mr Penne - I posted a Kijiji Ad for him, we shall see if I can re-home him.

@RoyalChick

He is black as can be, glistens and he is a real pet - I can get him to you if you like. Real easy I can put him in a sock under the truck seat to keep him safe and calm, till I get across the border then haul him back out and put him in a crate.

:)

Checking things out...

Just caught Tippy in the Hen House - checking out nest boxes??? She is 13 weeks now - seems a bit early, but I guess in a couple more weeks she could start laying. Itn's not unheard of I guess.

Thoughts all?
Has her comb picked up or grown yet?
