No. No white. Just black and gold. Oddly, gold penciled is usually gold and black barred (like barred rocks only gold instead of silver). Silver penciled is the chevrons, and partridge is gold (red) chevrons. Dunno why that seems to be, but sometimes thing simply don't make sense. Based upon that, Shan is gold penciled (like Cheetah without the roo feathers).
Beautiful colouring ❤️

I’m trying very hard to wait for word from the vet and not descend into total despair about Butters. I don’t know that she has the time to wait on blood results. And I don’t know anything can be done anyway, except to get food into her and see. But the vet said tube feeding her, if her problem is kidneys or liver, might be counterproductive, so I have not. So I’m grieving that she is likely dying. She is weakening. But she still wants to get out and about. Her eyes are half-closed at times even as she explores. She acts so hungry and interested in finding things to eat and in her flock mates eating, but won’t join in actually eating anything. So strange. She might be eating some grass seeds. Anything bigger I’m pretty sure she beaks it and chews a little but throws it out or let’s it drop, and wipes her beak. Not sure if she will drink the electrolyte & probiotic water even. Sorry to vent this horrible stuff, but you all know how hard it is. Thanks in advance. 😢 :hit
Venting is absolutely essential and we understand ❤️ I am so sorry she is not doing well and I hope 🤞 she turns around. I am so glad you have a vet in your corner.

An hour and a half out with the gang before lunch. Butters is hanging in, more active, and spent the time foraging and digging. Actually consumed a spider, and then just mauled a small worm right next to it and left it. Yesterday she was often with both eyes half-closed, even while foraging. Today, just her left eye. I don’t see anything swollen or amiss. The temperature is better today with west and northern breezes, but now we have wildfire smoke. that’s how it’s been this summer. Have a picture to post of her eyes, but on my phone, will post it next.

Brought them back to the run, and instead of resting Butters got right into digging in the litter for a dust bath. At some point she hopped into the doggie pool. When I checked the others had joined her, Hazel (left) taking the hole Butters was digging, maybe she commandeered it, I didn’t see when that happened. Popcorn’s in the foreground.

Good Morning Fluffy butts and all.
My oldest hen, Plum, has unfortunately died because of 117 degree weather yesterday. :hit
She lived for over six years.
Here is a pic of her before she died.

She was the top hen on the pecking order, But she was sweet and nice. She one hatched out 2 little hens, Tweet and Chirp, but they died. She stayed close to the flock with her two sisters, Stripe and Onaga, but Stripe died because of a hawk. Onaga is the only full barred rock we have left. Plum's other hatchlings, which were given away (except Onyx, which is still here), are Bandit, Crook, Cookie Dough, Z and Onyx. Bandit and Crook were some mischievous twins. They were Plum's indirect sons from Ijak the dominique and Cluckie the Light Brahma. They were silver and black barred with feathered feet and whitish tail feathers. Cookie Dough was Plum's other indirect son from Ijak and Buffy, a buff orp. He had black and white barring with orange and white barring on his hackles and gold on his wings. Z was Plum's real son from Ijak, and he looked just like his father, with the rose comb and the silver and white barring. Onyx, was Plum's real daughter from Ijak and Plum herself. She has the normal black and white barring and nice, robust, well rounded tail feathers. They all have rose combs.

This is some of the history of Plum. The sweet little hen who had a nice flock and family.

Pleased to note that Meanie and Sheba continue to use the nest boxes. For some reason, they keep switching. One day Sheba lays on the right and Meanie on the left...the next day they switch. I found it kind of funny... since they all laid in the same spot all year before now. Silly hens.
