Yeah I was originally planning on getting a white leghorn roo, but mine is so quiet and not troublesome, I don't really want to deal with the hassle of integration ever again!

Candled my quail eggs today. 8 quitters. I also lost power last night while I was asleep. I'm not sure how long it went out. So, the 16 eggs that show development might not have survived that if the temp dipped significantly. I mean, it's summer, if it dipped, it probably dipped to 85-90. Guess we'll see what happens. What a frought incubation this has been...
Oh I hope it is ok! I mean in the wild mamas are off the nest all the time, I dont get this issue with incubation and all, one would think it wasn’t so hard!

I'm probably overthinking it, it's my first time incubating. You know, with all this worrying, I'm almost expecting every single developing egg to hatch out just fine and I'll have populated myself more grey hairs for no reason at all.

Ya who knew chickens were so stressful!

I relented and let my gang out they were in an uproar inside here, soon let them out, and I was starting chores when I heard this ungodly uproar, I ran to the front of the barn just in time to see a fox run into the front paddock.

Of course I panicked and screamed at everyone to get inside, they are so stupid these chickens, they don't run for cover half of them! So I pretty much chased them all inside, slammed the door, everyone was in an uproar now, I threw down some scratch to shut them up and do a head count. But of course hard when your freaked out, and they are all scrabbling around for grain. Finally I think I have them all accounted for - it was a moment of horror when I couldn't find Marty - she is safe in her nest box. Good Girl!

I think I have all of them - will let them all settle then do another head count.

But that settles it - no more outside till I can get the electric fencing completed - I have elevated this to the top of the list now. Coyote yesterday, another fox in broad daylight today.... what next? a bear? So tomorrow will be dealing with electric fencing. But for now I am doing another head count.... OK seem to be all accounted for. Sheesh!

As I said - who knew chickens were so stressful! Keep all your little birdies in the incubator hahaha don't let them out! Can't wait to see baby photos.

My worry is for Raven, she collapsed yesterday after a fight, she is not young at 5 yrs old and fat and not used to running around.

No sure why Misty and Whiskers (my grey ladies) are fighting with her, I haven’t had trouble from them before, usually it’s Dorothy - but she has been steering clear of them.

And then there is Rico and her brawling, that’s how she collapsed yesterday.
NOT good RICO! :th
