I have noticed my chickens listening to the crows and ravens, also blue jays, for any predators around - smart birds!

Awww, I wanted to join the creme legbar club this august, but I just really, really, really don't want to put together another coop in this awful heat. Early spring for me!

Whichever of my pullets is laying green eggs keeps laying them on a shelf and then they roll off and crack! Stop it, lady!

can you put a thin board on the shelf near the edge to create a lip? (think 1x2 or lathe. Doesn't need to be much/thick to keep an egg from rolling off)

Can you put electric fencing around the chicken compound? About 3 or 4 strands should keep out the bad beasties.

I would still findout how the 'possum got in and fix it. If an oppossum can get in, so can a raccoon, skunk, mink, etc. fix it - then add hot-wires.

You underestimate me. I thought of that!
Piglet is also a Legbar (just a different color).
They are indeed both fliers.
But strangely Sylvie and Tassels are the biggest fliers. Tassels is huge so it is quite surprising to see her on the wing.

I cuss to let off steam, else I'd explode. The usual words... get old, so I made up my own. They're safe to use around the neighbors kids, too.

Light's crop is completely empty this morning!! It is a wonderful feeling.

Even though she has had pretty good appetite throughout, it is clear that she wants to eat a bigger variety of foods now as she is feeling better.

The vet did a crop wash on Tuesday, simultaneously he took out about half of what's inside her crop (mostly sand according to him). The vet asked us to give her 4 things.
1. antibiotics: clavacilin (amoxicillin trihydrate/clavulanate potassium)
2. metoclopramide (I think it's a gastric med)
3. slippery elm (maybe good for internal parasite too? but vet did not find parasites)
4. tube feeding some food mix.

I think the crop wash/lavage was key, but my husband thinks it was the meds that did the trick.

Since she had an empty crop this morning, we think we won't tube feed her anymore. We are still giving her the meds, all three of them. We will finish the course of antibiotics, but thinking Monday will be the last day of the other two meds given she continues to be good.
