Hello! I've been out of town a couple days visiting my in-laws. We had a neighbor watch the chooks and everyone is alive.

I don't think it was me that named Tweety though.

Good morning all, yesterday I split the Summer House in half with my temporary panels, figured they tweens and school chicks wouldn’t be able to fly up 6’ to roost there.

Seems I am wrong, Rico and Tippy sure can fly up there! I better get out there before he gets in with the new ladies and harasses them.

Reenie is still snoozing, not sure how with them all crowing and squawking!

No, it happened to me when the Buckeyes were chicks, I thought one was stroking out., and later DH saw it and thought so too. But especially now I check on Butters a lot!

Fox are scary to see. Do you have confidence in your poultry netting? I think coyotes are scarier, because they are bolder and can jump and climb better. Raccoons are usually out at night, but I've seen both fox and coyotes hunting during the day. Have you seen anyone test the fence? Could they use a reminder, like maybe baiting it?

Yes. I am doing some fence tweaks and plan to bait it again in early Fall. Right now there are lots if baby rabbits so I hope the foxes prioritize those!

I go between hope for recovery and getting ready for the end, expecting that I'll find her dead every morning, and everything in between. She behaves nearly like everything in between, and is having some good times. Her face is pinker than it was some days ago. Also not a bright deep pink comb but not pale or purple. She doesn’t act like her heart can’t keep up, she will trot and even run and not stop and pass out. She’s very interested in foraging with Popcorn. She does tire more quickly, after a while she’ll stand and doze while standing. She goes to bed early. She’s holding steady, I think, but as we know it’s hard to tell really.

I should have anticipated it yesterday and set up the coop warmers, but did it this morning because she was fluffed up with cold, and there was a breeze blowing through the run. Gathered her up and set her down in front of one. She moved closer and practically leaned on it. Then I set up some low tarps around that end of the run and where the breeze was coming in. Soon everyone was in that corner for a little warm spa preening session.

Found a 10 ml syringe with a catheter tip while rummaging around in cat supplies in storage, and it fits the red tubes that came with the luer slip syringes, yay! Got about 14 ml of Exact and water, about a tablespoon of the dry powder I’d say, into Butters this morning, counting how far the syringe goes back before feed shows in the syringe, then pulling more and filling to the 10 ml line. Each time I’ve fed her she goes over to the grit bowl afterwards, and maybe eats a couple tiny pieces, mouthing more but dropping them, and beaks around in there. I did see her actually eat two today. Also today I saw her drink water, several sips, when they were all outside foraging, and that’s new (to me). I might be imagining she's slightly better. She does have already a tiny bit of something soft in her when I feel her crop, and there’s a little bulge after the tube feeding. I’m confounded as to what is going on, and decided to give her another tube feeding late this afternoon, but got only about 10ml in (because the tube slipped off at one point).

This sounds promising to me. How is Butter's eye?

This chicken raising hobby is for the birds!
They take over everything and are very messy sometimes. You’d think that a Rock wouldn’t make such trouble but they do!

More alert and slightly more energetic. We just finished giving her the evening round of food and vitamins. I am beginning to be cautiously optimistic

For a water melon? It's $25 canadian for a torpedo watermelon (the last one I got)

depends on the season, they should be sold here now but can only find seedless (product of Mexico) for $5. Too expensive for me! I might get one be from my sisters garden and try with the chooks.

Is desert living good or something? compared to here, those are outrageous prices

But you have Yuma close by and they are the largest growers of these items; my parents wintered there 22 yrs and always commented on how inexpensive food is there.

Never tired to see this photo. What a great shot! @bgmathteach and I just don't understand how his wings are not blurry.

Mr. P looks like a Kungfu master deep in some mountain. He should inspire a movie making.
