Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

3 beautiful girls. They are not babies anymore but teens or young women. I thought Tassels was gonna be big, and yup she is going to be really big. Is she as heavy as she appears? Take away the beard and leg feathers and you would have a young Raven on your hands. I really need to weigh some of my girls. Raven and Squirrel are now my heaviest hens who I would put each weighing at least 6lbs if not more.

Yup - you were right - she is a big gal.
I do need to do some weighing because she is seriously fluffy and she may well be lighter than she looks because she is still quite good at flying. She has a habit of quietly approaching the others and just standing there - and she towers over them!

Happy Monday everyone. These mugs are curtesy of Raven's chicks who are 8 weeks old now. It is high time I start teaching them to sleep in the coop instead of the porch since it appears Raven will not. I am dragging my feet about it because it will end our nightly routine that I simply treasure. Raven brings the chicks to bed at the edge of dark. Me and Grandma both will go outside to sit on the porch for a bit and every single one of them will hop on both of our laps. Some will settle right down and try to sleep on our shoulders. The 2 rocks gravitate toward grandma and my Owly snuggles right in on me. We are rewarded with contented chick peeps from the babies who think they can sleep on us. If I come out later on to just sit and drink a cup of coffee later Owly will always fly to me and sit. Sometimes the rocks Trudy and Judy will follow. If a bad day has been had those few moments with them wash all the stress away. I do have to clean the porch and top of the nest box daily which is getting old.
Anyway enough rambling onto the mugs.
Judy and spot. I am watching the 2 speckled sussex chicks. I do not trust their combs nor do I like the fact the neither chick has anything as far as tail feathers go. If I bought males, it is those 2.

Owly beside the black pullet Raven hatched out. I have not named her yet as I was not planning on keeping the 3 she hatched out. Still not, and as long as she is not named I will be able to place her.....maybe.

Trudy and one of the 2 for sure boys. He is a looker but like I have stated 2 roos only.

Owly is loosing her chick fuzz on her head and is having permanent bad hair days at the moment. I love it.

She was not impressed I wanted pictures, she wanted on me.

Everyone! Something incredible is happening! My coturnix quail Sweetpea is broody with about 20 eggs! She also has the biggest brood patch I've ever seen and coturnix quail normally never get brood patches.

How is Perdita? One of my hens lost her lone chick a couple of days ago for 3 days straight she was calling and calling it. Last night, thankfully, she roosted with her old flock mates (since going broody, she was nesting in the bottom of a different coop during incubation - and these past few weeks as the chick could get in and out. It is sad, but I am glad to see she has gone back to her normal coop - and was roosting next to 'her' roos - he has probably missed her these past 5-6 weeks. She was roosted closer than normal - I'm hoping she is getting some comfort from him, too!

It is amazing how much they eat (or, rather, a mom catches for her and her pups to eat!) Lets hope they don't tire if rabbit stew.

My Money Went Missing...Again.
So about a week ago, when the chooks last spent my money, I thought that they had spent the amount of money they took on the stuff they ordered for me (with MY money). I had counted it along with the price of what they had ordered. Around $51 extra was missing. Uh-oh. They are not the best at counting then. But today, something showed up:

Yep. I know it's hard to read who it's sent to, but it's another package for Big Rooster.
I went ahead and opened the parcel:

The PineTime? How did they know I was eyeing one? I suppose they look through my browsing history. Maybe I should use a different browser.

Of course, by the time I took a photo of the packaging, I had extracted the watch, charged it up, and stuck it on my wrist.

It works great.
But I looked it up. It was only $26.99. So what did they buy with the extra $24.00 dollars?
I asked Abigail (the one who sneaks my money away).
Her reply was one word: "Shipping".
I replied, "Standard shipping costs that much?"
She said, "Out of the goodness of my heart, I got the extra fancy shipping for you".
Well, nothing I can do now. And I'm happy with it.
Keep an eye on your chooks. Hide your cash and credit cards. You never know what they'll buy (hopefully not a Beakbook Plus subscription for a fancy brown checkmark on their account).
