I found Momma Hen and she is accounted for. Her smarts saved her from harm. She was halfway up in the big pine tree where she apparently roosted last night. I had to bribe her down with corn. My flock is clearly still rattled though. The hens are nervous and the boys will not shut up crowing today. This is the most they have crowed past 8 am since I rehomed Twig and Madea.

I still have not located Momma hen but Chiquita is gone. I am still shaking from anger from last night. Everyone of my neighbors witnessed this so maybe they will stop feeding and baiting in strays. I will not post them but I also have pictures of the bodies if someone were to report what I did. I was in my legal right to shoot it in my yard. Frankly I would love for it to be some ones and it get back to them. I would like to meet them.
I’m so sorry, both of those chickens were dear to many hearts here. :hugs And yes, you were right to do that as a means to stop the carnage continuing. I don’t see that you had another choice.

The thing that’s insane about the neighbors being “kind” to the dog is that they really were not kind in the end. They contributed to the death of the dog. Whether by a gun, a car, or an attack from another animal. They did not restrain the dog and look for the owner and they could have, even after being warned the dog was a menace. That would have been a responsible, helpful and kind thing to do for their neighbors, their neighbors’ animals and chickens, and the dog.

Good news about Momma Hen, a little ray of sunshine amongst so much sorrow :hugs :hugs

Did the dog have tags?

I was hopeful Momma Hen had escaped the carnage. I am really upset about Chiquita and angry at the whole situation.
I wish I could pop over and give you a big hug and help knock some sense into those neighbors.
Ugh. It is just beyond bad.

Her left eye is the same, not worse or better. But she is overall worse today, she lingered in the nest box yesterday, then left and joined everyone. But today she has not left it yet 😥 . I think I may euthanize her, or have the vet at least come and look at her again. The feedings seemed at firsts to perk her up a bit, but not anymore. 😥
She’s still in the nest box, but now standing. I might move her into the warmth of the run. I want to give Butters a peaceful passing, and am thinking of just letting her go naturally. She hasn’t improved with tube feeding so I won’t do that anymore. If it’s heart failure or kidney failure, is that painful?

Not painful.
But inability to breathe is distressing. You will know if she is really gasping for breath.
None of mine got that far. They sort of went into a coma or sleep like state which they would rouse from slightly at my voice. Until they didn’t.
:hugs

You suggested it. His name is Sherlock.

As requested, more pics.View attachment 3595938View attachment 3595939He likes towels, in case you couldn't tell. Castor doesn'tlike him. But is starting to come around. Being in the kitchen for breakfast while Sherlock was stuck in the mud room may have helped. More time needed. Sherlock is also wary of the chickens. He wants to be by my side but is just learning how to go down steps. The stone stairs were a bit much with Whiskey keeping an eye on him. Sherlock went back in the house and cried while I fed the feathered horde.

The Invasion is the same age as Sherlock, I think. 9 weeks....lemme go check calendar, BRB.

Yes! Same age +/- a day. They're feeling grown up, too. They spent the night up on the high roost along side the adults. Jessica spent another night voluntarily off the nest, so I think she's decided being done being broody is a good thing.

2 fersView attachment 3595942Cardhu and a thunder cloud (profile on one or both of them is different, wondering if they'll pop throwback crests)

View attachment 3595943The other pair. Discovered yesterday there are 2 sets running around. Other set headed down while this pair went up.
Hi Sherlock welcome to FBA 💕❤️
