Is your fence powered? If so you should mow down the grass where the fence runs as those plants will short out the fence - or do what I do and use roundup to just kill the plants along the fence line.

I am still fixing the spots with the holes in it, when I get one spot done I just watch to see where they escape again and then fix that location 😁
The nets are low impedance which means that they are tolerant of some degree of weed growth. But don't worry - in those pictures the fence is not where it normally is - I tossed it inwards so I could deal with the area where it should be.
I am working on a scheme to make it easier to maintain from a weed growth point of view and to handle the hill better.

You should get down on your knees, and think like a chicken, scan the whole perimeter (trying to escape)!!

A miserable dreary day here, clammy and dull, and cool. The mosquitoes are having a field day with the horses. I may bring them in early - poor dears are not young anymore. Migraine weather for me, though going into town early this morning could have something to do with that - my mum is now wanting the kitchen cabinets refinished. Add that to the list of things to do (Paint garage door, and windows, fix some questionable boards on the front deck, fix the fencing at the front of the property...).

But for now I am just relaxing with my chooks - Tippy came for a visit - she will be 16 weeks old tomorrow, she is starting to sound like a mature hen, soon she will be laying eggs - wonder what colour they will be? Sophia her egg mom laid dark brown speckled eggs.

She is gorgeous. 🥰

I have to say that the colouring of your hens is lovely - such a lovely chestnut colour.

And Butters looks like she is enjoying her time outside at any rate, so glad that she and her sisters are together roaming the 'hills'.
Those Buckeyes are just gorgeous ladies. 😍

Had to rescue poor old Tuff from being assaulted by Rico, he had her down on her side and was trying to breed her, poor Tuff was just screaming; I am first off furious with Mr P for not running and thumping the crap out of Rico.

I also furious at Rico, who is now in the large crate, I could have easily throttled him, as it is he is likely missing a handful of tail feathers.

I guess I will have to keep Tuff locked away when I am not able to stand over her and keep her safe. My niece’s other hens manage to keep away from him, but poor Tuff doesn’t move all that fast.
It may be that Mr. P does not see her as one of his. Therefore he does not protect her.

Kinda PO'ed at Amazon. For the first time ever the hosed my order and sent sodium pills instead of the Selenium/vitamin E paste. Ordered a replacement and am fighting for a refund. In the meantime I found a supplement for goats at tractor supply that has the almost correct dosage of selenium. The pellets are the same size as the all flock pellets but with a slightly different smell. Mixed in a small amount per serving today and hope the chooks actually eat them. I've named the sick BR girl Betty. Betty gets more active and alert slowly but surely so waiting a couple more days for the paste isn't worrying me too much.
How frustrating. Of all things. :hugs :hugs
