Who’s a handsome boy - Rico that’s who.

He’s turning into a fat little dumpling, and he seems to have settled down with regards to Tuff, though I did catch him today harassing her.

Mr P has pummeled him a bit this week so he is starting cool his jets a bit.

But it’s still Penne who is hanging with Mr P and the grups, tidbitting for them with Mr P.
(Alright RICO!)

Rico is lovely and I am glad Mr P started pummeling him. I have to ask.....where is Floyd? is he still behaving?

If you can take a photo of the crumb size compared to your grups feed it will give us an idea on the crumb size. My starter fees has tiny crumbs.

This is my chick starter

And I bought some grower that was even smaller crumbs - pretty much dust. I make a mash with it.

Actually you should make a mash for them they should really like it. And I found it was very palatable for the chicks.
And a mash doesn’t make all that mess that dry crumbles do.

You really are taking care of her ❤️

Now I'm concerned for Tina after reading this because she's laid a few lash eggs.

I thought she was over it but she laid a weak shell egg a few days ago and I just thought her egg laying days had come too an end. But she seems to be healthy. Does laying lash eggs always mean it's salpingitis?

After she attacked all the chilies and cinnamon meant for the ant's she was perfect again
Apparently. But it can be treated with antibiotics. I was going to order Amoxicillin.

I need to go and see that video again, can she hop up on things and fly up on things?
Yep. She lays in the nest boxes, they're at least 24" up. Jim's said he's seen her on the top roost when he let's them out in the morning.
Ok so no the poop is fine.

She seems to be crawling like she has some weights or something, have you had a really good feel around her belly, back, legs, butt?

I try to just grab up a random chicken a couple times a day and give them a good old groping, they scream bleeping murder some of them but it gives me a clue as to what’s normal or not.

Right now I have Larry who has a bald butt, and some broken feathers on her tail and back. It’s very a disturbing groping her bald butt haha!

It’s a good way to get your chooks used to being handled and to check for anything abnormal. Tonight I grabbed Mr P off the roosting shelf and plucked a feather from his coiffe and checked his nails and spurs - need to trim them some more. His coiffe doesn’t need re-trimming yet.

This is seven eggs in six days? She's really producing eggs rapidly. She is definitely doing the penguin stance.

Did you tell us that you have not been able to handle her? I second @Ponypoor 's recommendation to give her a good once-over grope, if you want to find out more about what's going on inside of her.

Well duh...7 eggs = 7 days NOT 6. She gives one a day and rarely takes a day off; maybe once every month or two. Her eggs used to be the largest and always like the darkest ones in the picture. Now they're smaller also. But one every day. No lash eggs. No blood. Nothing worrisome, but the variation...which hasn't been happening long. It began in June.

I'm afraid none of them really let me handle them. Eenie's the easiest and she limits you to a quick stroke and eating from your hand. The only good way to check them is to catch them on the roost.

Caturday

Ginger over in the back corner daring the cat to even think of doing something 🤣

Story watching out for threats aka the older girls,
Neither he or Lore have even attempted to crow yet and so far they seem at peace with one another, we shall see as they are about to enter the hormonal idiocy phase. I’ve only ever witnessed a few chest bumps and neck flares then they just wander off to eat or lay down.

I found Momma Hen and she is accounted for. Her smarts saved her from harm. She was halfway up in the big pine tree where she apparently roosted last night. I had to bribe her down with corn. My flock is clearly still rattled though. The hens are nervous and the boys will not shut up crowing today. This is the most they have crowed past 8 am since I rehomed Twig and Madea.
Oh my goodness, I am so glad to hear you found her and that she is okay. I am terribly sad to hear about your losses and angry about the loose dog. What an awful position to be in. Lots of :hugs :hugs:hugs

Yes, Sylvie got goosed
Sylvie mastered the front of the chair and was busy explaining how it worked to all her friends.

She didn’t notice that Bernie was approaching.

Bernie took a great bite out of Sylvie’s (not particularly) fluffy butt.

Fortunately Sylvie learned all about flying from her Auntie Eli the famous stunt pilot, so she took off!

And just flew away!

I do not believe anyone was harmed.
Ha! Awesome series of photos you caught! They do so love to pick on the underlings, I swear I hear giggles here when they tag one of dotty crew.
