The nectar doesn't taste as "minty" or "garlicy" as you would think. Usually honey is a mix of all kinds of nectar.

I have goldenrod about to bloom, and I'm told that the honey from goldenrod will have a particular odor and taste. The description is anywhere from "dirty socks" (?!) to licorice (yum!).

This is my first year, my first hive, so we'll see.
Might owe SHRA tax re: goldenrod

Oh yes - you need to integrate - I am just questioning whether he will really kill them.
I wonder if you could pen him up nearby and let them out to get to know the lay of the land and where they can escape and hide.
Then let them mingle but you there to rescue if there is actual blood (some pecking is OK).
Then pen him up again so they can roost in peace.
Something along those lines?
I may be overreacting. He just seemed NOT happy to see those chicks on his side of the fence. He definitely lunged toward them. 😡

I'll try again tomorrow. I can't spend hours out there and certainly not every day...I have a job outside the coop. I can certainly rig it up so they can get away, but Eenie won't be able to. I guess she'll just have to take it.

Eli’s spirit is strong.
Here is Calypso who somehow landed on top of my shade canopy and was eyeing the roof.
I don’t know how she got there - I was working hard digging a path to the chicken shrub.
Only Babs, the gardener, seems to appreciate my hard work.
By the way, does anyone know if this is a honey bee?

That is indeed a honey bee. Should be more interested in the flowers than you, and the chickens should leave it alone.

In case something like this happens: how do I tell if my chicken is dead? If it isn't how do I get them to come back?
I did a search but didn't find much except maybe one or two things on it and a post with someone asking my question and a bunch of jerks replying about how they were a jerk to their rooster etc.
I'm still very sad but I think she came back for a few seconds and then passed.
How do I tell if they still have a heartbeat as well?

I am so sorry about your Abigail. I assume everyone else is OK? 😢 😢 :hugs:hugs
Thank you.
Yes they are ok physically. I do not know what is going through their minds but I can tell that both the hens and Big Rooster (me) are still very sad.
And I hate dryer vents. I wish they did not have to have them. Maybe a ventless dryer is my next crazy idea.

Are you sure you want to think about this right now?
Maybe tomorrow or in a few days?
