Chick introduction day 2. Pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday. Calm, happy chicks and mom; wacky, skittish other hens observing from afar.View attachment 3602751
Nomal behavior. Happy mom can turn into bat s#$& crazy in an eye blink. The other 2 know it and are providing LOTS of space.

That’s fine, let them watch and learn, eventually they too will come on down and dig around - where’s Manny?

9 weeks old today. It has thunderstormed and rained all day so I did not bring out my camera. These were roughly taken 2 weeks ago so 7 weeks old at the time. They have gotten bigger but their tail is exactly the same. Comb and wattles also look the same. I cannot help it, I look at them and to me I am seeing boys. Still pullets. Nox and Mera popped tiny wattles and left them. It was a big part of my questioning them.

I cried myself to sleep for the first time since my dog died in April last night. Yesterday was an awful day. I miss those two sweet guinea girls already. Their poor brother is a mess. There is another male and one female in the cage. The male is higher in the pecking order. That's news to me though, because he is special needs.

It was so weird feeding my "baby" guineas without Frost jumping onto the bucket for food, and Eclipse pushing herself up against me because she was shy. I just wished that they would have made it nine teen more days. Just until the 25th of August. That is their hatchday. And my birthday. That's one reason they were so special.

When I gave their clutch mates away, I kept Frost and Eclipse because I adored them. Turns out that I just killed them. I'm just so devastated. It didn't help seeing how everyone on here (pretty much) has lost a bird ( or more :( ) JUST THIS WEEK. I am still in shock. I wish I could bring them back. I hate that they died.

I hope that everyone is doing okay. Please stay safe in this awful weather. It's too dangerous. Try to keep your chooks safe. You are more important though.

I'll try to check in tomorrow. Not even one week into 8th grade and they are already pressuring us. Well, mainly the highschool credit classes I'm taking... Have a good night.

The ones I posted about I got on Amazon.

One tip is to lubricate the tube - I slathered mine in coconut oil even though it was very smooth straight out of the packet.

This was the bigger tube that I liked best (I think I mentioned that the bigger tube seemed less stressful for everyone concerned): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W0CGF0U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also got this - but the syringe wasn't an O-ring type so gave up working quite fast and the tube is much smaller - 14Fr in case the ones you have are marked - and I found it less easy to control.

Thank you for this. I think the tube is pretty lubricated because there’s the coconut oil in the gruel, and I’ve been making about twice as much as I need, in a small measuring cup, so that the tube sucks it up with no air. The tube has two holes, the highest one is maybe an inch or inch and a half up from the tip. I curl the tube in the cup too. So there’s about four inches of greasy gruel coating the tube end.

I know I owe SHEA tax but will supply tomorrow.

Well as I have limited experience with wattles I won’t say one way or another, but they sure are cute 🥰
