I may not make it to dark tonight. I got 3 hours of sleep last night. You ever have those nights when your brain just won't shut off? I got to bed at midnight and last looked at the clock at 4:12 a.m. I managed my 8:30 phone meeting then told my boss I needed a sick day. Tried to nap. Same. I might have dozed the last 15 minutes or so. I am soooo tired and yet worried I might not sleep tonight. 😴

Insomnia sucks.

Today was a bit of a non-chicken day. Many of you will empathize when I tell you I started the morning at the DMV and then continued on to the Social Security Office.
Then there was some chicken kerfuffles that got me stressed - I will explain more when I am less exhausted.
So, for Mugshot Monday we have a BFTP because this one always makes me smile.

Happy rest of Monday from Lulu (RIP Lulu - your signals still reach earth now and then).

Hmmm sounds like government stuff - enough said!

Love Lulu even still now ❤️

I am so sad you’re having sleep troubles (I know something of sleep issues 😢), Just don’t stress too much with your chooks, I hope you were able to get them in bed as you wanted. I am still catching up on reading.

Insomnia? When that happens to you, just think about how Alex is doing while he’s awake too! :barnie

Spuds Update - doing well!
Here's the new digs

Yup, that's a temporarily re-purposed post-surgery toilet chair in there, the legs as low as they'll go for now. The waterer and feeder hang from an armrest, the seat is covered with cardboard and then shelf liner. On top of the brooder plate (lower left) is a bed-raiser for a jump-step up there. When the pop-up top is open they jump up on to the back tube and launch onto the edge....am trying to figure out a way to open it up and enclose that circle, so they can go up further.

Two weeks and a day old today. Tried to get some pics, took a billion of course to get some decent ones, most are like this - there's a mug!

Great news on Butters!

I love your little feeding station in this picture with the bottle roof! I am going to steal this idea. Where did you get these cute hanging cups?

That's a kitty litter container ("jug"), previously used for seedlings. This is the improved Model 2 version of weather protector. I can take a picture showing how I did it tomorrow - I cut out a narrow rectangular slot out of the back, so that there's a lot of the back left and hopefully it can be used without a tarp behind it (we get sideways wind-driven rain, pretty fierce here). Then I cut a couple of small holes above that to hang it with a long twist--tie from the cage.
The feeder cups are from Premier 1, "Abbey Cage Cup" made to hang on a wire cage, they have a little vertical snap on the lower back that's handy too (not using that feature with my weather protector).

They're not big as you can see - 3/4 cup I think. But good for grit and oyster shell and a third cup for Butters' feed. I refill it once or twice during the day, because Butters gets intimidated off it or the treadle feeder sometimes, others are eating from it. It's easy to lift up and out or just top off with a handful of feed.

Sooo...tried again. Eenie and babies once again were off the side of the waterer. This time I managed to lift Eenie off the chicks, but she was none too happy. I can't seem to get her to step on my hand for anything, so I have no real option but to put a hand on her breast and lift. I think I'm probably just not patient enough...but then again it's not like they let me handle them. This time I just went for the platform next to the roosts. Manny had to leave the snuggle and voice his displeasure. :barnie The babies were rather unceremoniously plopped next to their mom and we doused the light (which we'd wrapped in a red shirt and kept as low as we could) and got out of there. Did they stay? Who knows.

They are so stinking cute! 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 You have created a great play spot/home for them there - plenty of things to explore and hop on🎋

I must say, those epaulets are looking awful dark/reddish for BOs, is it just an optical illusion? I'll have to check them out again in a couple of weeks when more feathers are fully in.

As far as 'up' is concerned....do you have any spare fencing? You could insert a loop/column of fencing for the 'up' part, and run some small dowels through the holes (or, if the fencing holes are too small, fasten some with zip ties), and you could put a cardboard 'top' on, couple of zip ties on one side so it opens like a lid. might need to put a 'latch' on it soon, though, as they may try flying at it to get out in another week or so - and if they succeed once - they will keep trying!:lau:rolleyes::lau
