This is Nieva. We took her to the vet Friday, as she’s struggling with bumblefeet.
She weighed her : 1.4 kilo, or 2.2 lbs. I don't think that's a lot ; @BY Bob and other leghorns friends, do you think it's more than yours in the US ?
I am sorry she has bumblefoot so bad :( I know they don't feel pain the same way we do...but that looks very painful.:hit

If I remember correctly, it is a bit of a trip for you to get to the vets....I hope it is a relatively peaceful/non-stressful trip for both you and Nieva:fl

So, I'll let Leghorn people chime in about how much she should weigh, but 1.4kg = approx. 3 lbs, 1/2 oz US weights. Not that it is a huge amount more, but given the small weights in general, it is definitely better than approx. 2 lbs, 3 oz.

sorry, my math geek in me had to fix that

Love these mugs! 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰

Isn't it amazing the different expessions chickens have! Unlike us, where they can't really smile or adjust facial tissue like we can, they still manage to generate definite facial expressions!

Or maybe I am just anthropomorphizing? :idunno:idunno:idunno

So, I am seconding @RebeccaBoyd 's call for 'enough is enough'

My last DC to have not hatched/raised/raising chicks this year is now broody - again:barnie

I had managed to break her on her 4th week of setting a while back when we had that horrible heat wave, and was concerned for her - so took her out of the nest box every chance I got...and later in the afternoon (when nearly all were done laying for the day - blocked off the nest boxes in her coop on the weekend when I was home to do it. Well, she is at it again....:thI have no more room at the inn, ladies!!!!

Not Floyd he keeps testing Mr P fighting him, so far P has wolhooped his arse, but I am not taking any chances he (Mr P) might be injured.

Penne is an option he ignores Mr P and he has been raised with him, roosts with him. But he terrorizes the gals, and the worry he has no fear of people, he likes to come and visit with me in the office and he will roost beside me.

If it was just me here Penne would be my option to stay but my mum is dead set against any Roos staying so I guess they will all go. Already she is going on about my getting rid of the hens just keeping the silkies and my niece and cousins hens. Get rid of the rest.

I will need to find someone to do chores here once I get settled in my new position; the horses will be housed at my friend’s place in the winter as usual. But I need to get someone to do the chooks this winter as mum has stated she doesn’t want to do them when it gets cold. This will be extremely difficult as I am in a rural area and people do t want to drive. I might approach my neighbour down the road and see if she wants to do them during the week, and maybe mum can do on the weeekends.
Sorry you're in this position. I didn't see a "no roos" and even less hens coming, sorry your mom isn't into it. I suppose though as our parents and elders age we can't ask as much help of them. Any chance you can instead take your chickens to your new location, are you in an urban area? Then you'd have to arrange help for only one week a month when you're East.

This is a permanent position, correct.... not a seasonal one? will be nice to have a steady income, I bet!

My sweet cross beak girl. She won't let me pick her up (I have to get her after dark to bring her in to give her her evening feeding) But when I am out & about & they are free ranging, if I start talking to her, she comes running over and hovers about until I stop chatting. She just pulls my heart strings! 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰
How lovely. She has really grown with your care and support. Can she eat at all by herself?

Let us take time out today to celebrate Bunny's hatchday. She is 3 today and was from Holly's first ever clutch. Happy birthday sweet girl. I have some steak fried rice to sneak out to you later on when no one is looking.

Happy mugs monday as well from the only girl who has ever been allowed to hatch in the house. On the couch no less.

Happy Hatch Day, Bunny!
Are you going to hatch on the couch again, by any chance?

Twister
She is my twisted sister, good thing she is friendly!

She some how flew OVER the netting, then couldn’t get back in, she was perched a n some safety fencing, so I opened the mesh and she flew up onto the 2x4 - such a ham!
