I want to show a picture of me and Taffy in uniform, but there’s limits to what I can show you. Trust me, she was brave and smart. Well trained, and the best sniffer dog ever.

That's a really good sign! Will she eat them without needing the competition to prompt her devouring them???Butters a few days ago. She's very hungry for walnuts and mealworms.

Don't look ahead for trouble, if it happens it will come whether you worry about it or not. Enjoy your time with them both.Good Morning fluffy butts and all.
I have a thought
I now have two roosters, Ijak and Stormfeather.
View attachment 3636932View attachment 3636933
When Stormfeather grows up, I'm worried that they might fight. Currently I only have 11 hens, and Ijak has been known to handle up to 20 hens on his own. I just hope that they don't fight. Ijak has been a lovely roo in the 4 years that I have had him. He once had a very agreesive brother and they used to live together in peace until they came to my farm with the hens. They turned on each other. Ijak's brother was a formidable fighter and there were screeches and flaps and I had to separate them. Ijak lost one of his spurs. His brother had to go into the soup pot. I just don't want anything bad to any of these two as Stormfeather grows up.
I'm so very sorry.A hawk just attacked my guineas. I put all of them up but one. I don’t know where she is. She’s been pretty lethargic lately. She is Eclipse’s mom. Luckily I still have her son Russell. I might not ever free range him to keep her in my heart. RIP Madame. Fly high Maddie. I’ll miss you Mad Bird. (I’m not sure if she’s dead, but I’ve been looking for her and I can’t hear or see her. Those are all of her nicknames. Her real name is Madame Pearl. I’ve not started crying yet. I’m sad but I hardly feel it. It’s weird.)View attachment 3637019View attachment 3637020 View attachment 3637021

I don’t understand some industry terms. What exactly do you think they mean by “the whole egg-laying cycle”? Start of lay, then they live for some 18-24 months or so, then they stop laying and are killed? Why is this a cycle? Seems pretty linear, if that’s what they mean. Maybe it’s cyclical for the farmer (but not individual birds)?
I know. Sorry. It's a tough thing when you don't make your own thread's synopsis.![]()
What a nice reward for him!Well he got the doorway done and pretty much all the reinforcing today.

And he got to cuddle the chicks a bit. Keeps saying "this is a perfect coop for four, and we will never have more than four." Hahahahahaha...we shall see...

Shep, the black one, is his favorite. I warned him that Kasumi is a mega cuddler in advance, he got to experience it firsthand.

Every time he tried to take her off, Kasumi would get back on him.
He is super adorable. How can you not keep him? Here is a cute young cockerel from my 3rd broody's hatch. I was hoping he would be a she, but no such luck.He is sweet, though, and will let me catch and hold him (except for first thing in the morning when I let them out - they are then either intent on devouring food, or running like kids to recess when it had been raining all the previous week!

Given his head tuft, mom is my one Lake Shore Egger (she was the one trying to communicate with Lulu last summer.) She is my only chicken (well, now, only ADULT chicken) with a head tuft - and is striped like a Cuckoo Marans but with a slight frame. And, since he has some red bleed-through, daddy must be my mixed Roo from last year's hatch (part EE - dad, and mom must be my one red star or similar (she was one of the clearance hens from TSC 2 years+ ago.) given his coloring. Darn, I need another roo that isn't either a BR or a breeder to create my meat line like I need a hole in my head - I only kept his dad because he was so good with and to the ladies - and at a young age, too - his idiot phase was mild & short lived. His dad is one of only 2 roos that actively find good nesting spots and call the ladies!
