For Lovers of Hattie

She is doing great. Her sore is healing. She jumped up on a footstool today for the first time in many months.

Even better she has started showing her wiles. She avoided me in a very clever fashion today.

Last time I caught her in the morning it was when everyone exited the complex when I opened the side door in the morning. So I tried the same thing this morning. Out they came.

Only 5 hens. Where is Hattie? OK. I can wait. So I call her. No response.

Then I hear scratch, scratch, scratch.

It's coming from the Cluckle Hut. Hattie is in the Cluckle Hut scratching around.
I call her again. Out into the porch she comes.

I watch as she tries to work her way onto the ramp and she seems to be having trouble. So I decide to go pick her off the porch. To do so I have to walk around the complex to the door into the big run.

As soon as I get to the door, Hattie jumps off the porch and sprints out across the yard away from me. No medicine for her this morning. Fooled that old human servant again.
:gig :lau :gig :lau

She is this active on 1 ml per day. I'm hoping this lasts a long time.
This is great news and a good story! (Told really well too!)
This is just the best news! Thanks for sharing!

Lady F. seems to be molting, on the hard side with the looks of it.
It's a tough thing when you don't make your own thread's synopsis. 😕
An analogy is you started a small business like a Mom & Pop grocery store but it's wildly successful. Like a town's meeting place in the back coffee nook.

Hope you feel better soon.

No I don’t decorate, but I gave them a pumpkin last year and it was a big hit😊

I chipped out the skin for eyes, nose and mouth, then the chickens took over and pecked out those areas.

It was quite hilarious seeing them reach their heads inside the hole there in the mouth area and hauling out the innards 😁

I loved watching this last year. So much fun for the chooks.

Yup. Both Orpingtons are in full molt. Lots of feathers in the coop. I can't wait to see them both afterwards. They will look spectacular.

This is a very nice way to view this. Thank you for that.

Yes. That was the only way I could catch her - when she roosted at dark.

Unfortunately, I had to process her this weekend. With her growing and my arm not, it was getting harder to feed her and taking longer to stuff the crop...and she was - condition wise= a full grade below her siblings. And that is with me keeping her in these past few weekends to give her a full mid-day feeding, too, before letting her out with her siblings.

😢I cried myself to sleep Sunday night.😢 I knew this day would come, but I kept trying to ignore that thought mentally - until I just couldn't anymore.

Barnyard mix, or in other words a mutt 😊

Edit - actually most all my chickens are mutts, other than the silkies. Even the Azurs are not a breed, but a hybrid that was developed by Hendrix Genetics.
I hate to disagree but Mr. Pompeii looks like a full polish to me.

Hey! Stop That!
We have a grooming session going on right now. I think Lady Featherington is trying to help Hattie by removing molting feathers. I believe Hattie does not want help because Lady Featherington just got pecked pretty hard. Maybe that last one wasn't ready to come out yet.
