Me and Jaffar are spending some time together. I want him to eat the best I have to offer, away from the ladies. Yep, what this rooster needs is time away to reflect and recuperate. (So do I )
But I want to go to South Dakota, via Colorado Springs, and take Hannah on vacation. :idunno Time will tell.

Got some new pics, took Sherlock for a walk, washed some dishes, checked dates on last year's moults. Mid October at least for Nellie and Pear (and they look the same, so same moulting pattern, just running a month earlier).

Jessica is looking mostly done and FIIIINE!

Primula is also a mass of pin feathers, looks like a bit ahead of Thing.

Nellie, as rumpled as last year, seems a bit perkier though. Pear has done her vanishing act again. Finds a spot to hide from ALL and graze on whatever her food of choice is. Last night, she was the last one back to the coop, at 3/4 dark.

That's Mera with him.

And Nox for comparison. She's working on her tail, yet, so resting where she can't be picked on.

Pippa is demonstrating the STYLISH moult. Hasnt really started growing pins yet.

And a shot of the Invasion with Hector, Primula and Mera. Havoc, Enigma, and Tuff are almost as big as Mera. They still have some filling out to do, though.

Why is it, that my leghorn The Bbeautiful Hen-Rietta, won’t let me touch her new tail feathers?

Hello everyone!
Today is warm and sunny so far, and the chicks have been sparring! Shep really throws her weight around but even Kasumi can stand up to (and chest bump) her now. Happy birds all round.

Hubby is hoping to get the run extension as far as possible this week and finish this weekend. We have to repair the nest box floor, and insulate the coop as well. Running out of warm dry days to do it so...time to buckle down and get to work. I haven't gone in to the doctor yet, because I think it's actually a tooth infection so I need to call the dentist instead. 😫 I haaaaate teeth.
But! I have from-scratch marinara simmering today, my kid is having a great day as opposed to the past couple, and even the dog is feeling perky.

The poor dears, they look miserable with those pins!

Jessica is looking lovely! And Storm will look like a whirlwind class act again shortly - with the new, vibrantly colored feathers. Isn't it amazing just how much they fade/get bleached with the sun! I have 2 'blues' that look like there is blonde/light brown creeping in...then they molt and are back to pretty much 'blue' again!

Why is it, that my leghorn The Bbeautiful Hen-Rietta, won’t let me touch her new tail feathers?
Because the rest are in process, and she doesn't want to be touched, nor to show her 'half-dressed' body. Give her time to finish getting 'gussied up' with her new feathers!

Geeze, impatient guys, beauty takes time, you know ;)

:gig:gig

Oh! You need to put spoilers for those bad molting pictures. I don't know what it is - it looks so miserable and uncomfortable it really gets to me!
I know it is normal and natural and they are OK - but honestly it looks terribly painful.
