No, I had not heard of that but yes the weather has been wonky.
I am in Southern Ohio and normally it doesn’t get crazy cold here but last winter was pretty rough.
I upgraded my waterer to a large capacity nipple style, that allows for a trough type heater to be dropped into it. I struggled with open waterer and bucket heater last winter it got so gross 🤢 so fast.
I have been contemplating getting a sweeter heater and I really wouldn’t have thought I would need one but maybe better safe than sorry 🤷‍♀️

I am so sorry your loss and for your wife and of course her friend.
The Sweeter heater is only radiant heat, it will warm up your chook directly under it.

I found that old Penelope hogged mine and wouldn’t let others under it. But when the could, my silkies all hung out under it. They can’t handle really cold temps.

My Hen House is fully insulated and with all the chooks in there at night it stays a bit above the freezing point, unless it really cold, like into the -30C, then it doesn’t get above the freezing point (0C or 32F).

Am thinking this year it will be even warmer with the 4 additional chooks - Sophia’s chicklets. Might need an exhaust fan to keep it from getting too warm or humid.

Congratulations everyone!

I left home yesterday afternoon, i put the guinea cage together first, and got to Midland around 1 AM. Hotter than blazes today. Lucked out that the job is only a few miles from my hotel.
Stayed in Midland a couple times driving to Yuma, Odessa once…. Oil country and hotels are crazy expensive!
