Butters is failing today. I'm not sure she'll live through the night. Yesterday she was eating and drinking and fairly active, but today mostly resting, not wanting to move much. It seemed she wasn't steady on her feet, especially one side, and I wondered if she hurt something. Her comb and face is normal red. Later when I gave her some walnut bits, she wanted them, but it seemed her beak was pretty dry and ate some then stopped eating. She went over to the feeder and tried to eat but the crumbles were very dry in her beak too. So she got herself over to a sunny protected spot and rested. When the sun moved she moved too, but not very well. I felt her crop and decided to tube-feed her some baby bird mix thinking it would give her nutrition and fluid, and I syringe-fed her 3ml of water & electrolytes too, all right there in the sun. She stayed where she was for a couple of hours.

So at 6pm I got her and sat with her by the coop and said my goodbyes and just hung out with her on my lap for half an hour. She slept and looked around a bit. I put her in the nestbox, because that's where she puts herself to bed and it feels safe, and the others would soon be in, and she would have her usual company. I fluffed the hemp so it would be soft. 😢
Is she okay today? :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

Butters has passed. She was still breathing when I checked her on camera at 5:40 this morning. Her body is stiff but still warm. No big spasm, her head and feet look like she was sleeping though she had moved forward from before. Rest In Peace dear Butters :hit :love❤️❤️ 😢

It is a mystery what ailed her, her molt had been progressing with the tube feeding and then her own eating, but seemed to slow, and on Monday her weight was down again.
I’m sad to read this, @ChicoryBlue . It seems she passed peacefully, and in a way i’m glad you knew it was time, and were able to say goodbye. It's not the outcome we hoped for, as she seemed to be making progress. While the cause remains a mystery, the evolution when a chickens gets better and then suddenly takes a turn for the worse seems, sadly, to happen quite a bit.
Fly high dear Butters. I will remember you with Peanut, as with Hazel and Pop-corn you were the first Buckeyes I ever read about.

Oh. I'm sorry for your loss, it must of happened so quickly. :hugs:hugs

Invasion update (not sure if the lighting or the phone camera settings made for the over exposure, but it is what it is)

Taken during breakfast, so all very active.

Faces are starting to pink.

Chia and Havoc. Chia looks to be the first one going to lay as she has the largest comb/wattle growth. With her neat rose comb, I now suspect Cheetah is her papa, with maybe Jessica as her mama. If Cuckoo is a barred x penciled, then the lacing x penciled could explain her markings on a gold rather than silver background.

Enigma, now looking like a lighter version of Maizie, minus the beard. Going to be a bit yet with her.

Havoc with Chia behind. I suspect she won't be far behind Chia on the eggs. And that they'll start laying within the next 4 weeks (likely sooner).

Tuff, with Mera in front and Havoc and Enigma in the backgroutdoor.

Another look at Enigma, note the light Colombian markings around her neck. Those and the black in her tail are the ONLY not gold on her anywhere. Her genetics are still a mystery.

Managed to catch a movement pic with good focus for once. Havoc is quite the darling.

And Shan posed! She definitely looks like she will be the last of the 4 to lay. And looks like classic dark Brahma with a gold wash.

Zulu...every pic was blurred. He's mostly in constant motion. He looks like a slightly smaller version of Cheetah, with blue duckwing. Everything else on him is black or gold. And I finally confirmed yesterday morning that he IS the one responsible for the junior crow. (Still a bit furry sounding, but gaining clarity).
