What? Noooooo. Branch has worn a Christmas hat and a makeshift mask diaper. Did not phase him in the least. Rosie is on the lookout for googly eye's on her many wal-mart trips the last few days. So far the stick on ones have been sold out. It is just a matter of time I tell you. I should also add to the list those fuzzy bendy straw things in the craft section as well. With the googly eyes Branch could pull off being a spider for Halloween.

do what you want. What you think is best. But I’m not dressing up my chooks for Halloween. They all look like prison inmates with their stripes anyways.

I saw a YouTube video with chickens wearing baby arms, running around in the yard. I didn’t think it was funny at all.

I've seen photos of chicks with hats glued on. Makes me mad and sad. And they're dyed.

I need to point out that I would never do anything to Branch that would physically harm him or stress him out in any way for my amusement. That little rooster is too special to me. I have found in some cases through necessity that he loves to be bathed, blow dried and wrapped in towels. That was learned when he tried to drown himself as a chick and then when he stupidly ninja kicked a coffee can full of used motor oil on himself. He also loves to be brushed. I can take one of the horse curry combs to him and he melts and purrs. Would i dye his feathers if it were possible? Absolutely not. Would I paint his toenails with nail polish.....the thought has crossed my mind a time or two, but I have not. I have massaged his feet with mineral oil after I have worked on his spurs, he does enjoy that. The thing with Branch is he craves attention and loves to be handled. I would not attempt any of this with the other chickens, well, maybe Owly. She also seems to be on Branch's level with craving attention. I have taken a toothbrush to her beard and muffs to comb them out. When she was transitioning from chick down to feathers her muffs had a few stray feathers that started to bother her eyes. It put her to sleep. I see absolutely nothing wrong with plopping a hat on your chickens head if the worst thing they are going to do is shake their head to make it fall off. Or for that matter sending a stick on googly eye flying off their head poof with a shake.

Gosh that reminds me of my neighbours girls playing with the foals; they would weave flowers in their mane and forelocks

I would come home from work and find them decked out in daisies and dandelions, an other wild flowers each evening I would have to clean up their manes and next days repeat hahaha. Those foals sure where spoiled, I think one of them was Sally… so long ago…

We used to put hats and caps on the horses - just lay it on top of their heads, they just ignore it, but one cheeky pony would drop the ball cap on the ground then pick it up and take off with it - it became a game with him

Ell, with yesterday's chaos, Thing came up missing at head count/close the coop time. There was still a bit of light, so I went looking. Found Zero traces of her: no body, no feathers, nothing. As she's been know to "go to ground" (find a hiding spot and hunker in and stay put) in the past, I figured (slim), possibility that's where she whe was. Opened coop in early light, so too early for her to be moving yet. Still no signs of her. Unless she's pulled a Storm and gone broody somewhere, I have to plan she's gone too. Sadly, we haven't even found feathers, so at this point, we don't KNOW.

Oh, gosh. I hope Thing hid somewhere and turns up . How terrible...

Sorry but now I am just flipping furious - I know it uncharitable of me to think such things but buddy needs to rehome the dog. Killing one I can say ok stupid young pup, 2 ok he had some fun, BUT 3 means (if Thing is actually gone) that this dog had learnt to hunt and kill. That is a goner dog in my books.

I don't think he had time to get 3. Especially since I can find NO feathers or body. I think she went to ground, and something got her in the night.

It's a VERY long stretch for her going broody, but possible. She's a white egg layer, and I haven't had any of those in the coop in a couple of weeks. It's a terrible time of year to hatch babies (around here), but Momma Hen (Evil Ol' Bat) demonstrated that it's possible, so .
