I might look on Kijiji and see if there are any for free. The wooden door on The Hen House used to be a door at the house here, I reused it and it still had the old curtain on it 😊 I will need to put a curtain on the other side also so none of the chooks tries to fly through it, or maybe some mesh instead.
Yes. Mine were headed for land fill from a house being demolished. I nearly didn't get them because I thought it was excessive for a chicken coop, and then I realized that I was creating a Chicken Palace and then it became obvious I needed them!

Right?! How true! yes I feel I need proper doors for the actual winter residence.

Well nothing on Kijiji, wonder if my BIL has any old doors 🚪

Pear's feathers have double black chevrons, really great. Is that the "partridge" marking?
That is. And the same markings on silver for dark brahmas.

Interestingly, Cardhu shares the double chevrons, making me suspect at least 1 of the brown eggs in Storm's nest was from Pear.

Not as clean, but similar to the sometimes blurred chevrons on my dark brahmas.

I have been trying this, but he always keeps about five feet between us, so if I approach him to offer something he moves away!

I have tried to drop treats nonchalantly near him when they are outside of the run, but again those hens don't miss anything and they all come charging over and poor Cesario runs away because wouldn't you if a horde of voracious ladies came at you like that?! :lau

I will keep trying.
I try to toss towards the roos (they do stand back a bit) for several reasons:

1. Spread the marauding horde of feathered velociraptors out a bit.

2. Get said "v" to look at the roos.

3. Let the roos know I'm trying to help them get the girls, not steal the girls.

4. Help me see who doesn't have something to nibble on.

I'm partial to Pear, as my beloved Rosie, who made me realize just how wonderful & smart chickens were, was a Partridge Rock...so I actually hope Cardhu is a Pear offspring! 🥰 🥰 🥰

I didn't realize the Dark Brahmas (well, more like remember) had penciling/lacing. That makes much more sense - a white & black laced hen is mom- I was trying to figure out who other than Jessica had the lacing, as it wasn't Pear/partridge marking! I somehow missed in the picture that she had feathered feet.

P.S. This just proves that you need to post more pics of your Dark Brahma ladies...they don't get the spotlight near enough🥰
Belladonna is miserable and a mass of pin feathers. Primula has her back covered, but her bottom half is currently a mess (think boat: above the waterline good, below....not so much)

She's working on it

Even her back isn't done growing yet, though.

Edit: Asphodel had some single laced breast feathers rather than the penciled breast, so the color can pop up.

If I had more (and ability to separate), I would probably try to breed more like Shan. Gold laced Brahmas would be really neat and they're one breed as a whole with a limited number of varieties.
