I have 1 that is 25 weeks and no eggs yetGinger just started on Sunday! She's been super consistent; lays directly on the nest pad next to the ceramic egg at 5 am. Perfectly clean with a hard shell. And no egg song, business only!
I'm convinced the Australorps will never lay eggs. Mushroom goes in once a day to trash the box like a rockstar in a hotel room, and that's her contribution![]()
Here’s the deal with Coco. She’s inside the house with me tonight. When she is very comfortable, she will make soft noises like a cat purring, but with a slight whistle to it. Makes me really relaxed as well. Makes for a great nights sleep, and she will wait until I wake up in the morning to let me know if she’s hungry or not. Only thing she doesn’t have is a rooster’s alarm cluck. So I’m sleeping in tomorrow!

Not since Rosie was broody, she keeps them in line and or tells on them. Plus we have been trying to keep the kittens from the driveway, so blocking the gate.Have your girls been on any 'walk-abouts' lately? Strolling around the neighborhood, seeing who has good bugs and such?
(It was your girls that went over to the neighbors, correct?)
I know it is a bad idea to add just 1 chicken at a time to a flock. I know this. I really think she would do well with a friend. Unfortunately to have added 2 together I would have had to take on another rooster. As much as I love the boys, and she had a brother identical who was very tempting I made a deal with mom. NO more boys and she will never make another complaint against Branch. Branch likes her and is very curious and interested in her. I think from the interactions I have saw so far he see's her as a chick abandoned by its momma that he needs to babysit. I may start putting him in with her periodically for short periods during the day frequently. This way he can babysit for a bit then go back to rooster duties as well. Technically she should be around the same age as Owly's group, older in fact. Even the smallest of that lot, the sussex's and Spooky are way bigger then her. Spooky could be a option though, she is sort of the loner in that bunch. I could test out how she behaves with her and see if they could be buddied up. Honestly before she arrived I was thinking of pairing her with spooky if possible. The problem is the picture advertising her was misleading. I could tell she was small, I just did not expect her to be as small as she is. She is a good eater though, a pig actually. From experience I think she is getting ready to come into a growth spurt and in a month will have grown enough to where I will not be as concerned with her size. She has already shown from her spat with Corona that if a bigger hen starts a fight she will not back down. Miss Sass, you need to grow some before you can hold your own against the big girls. Those silkies are such brats! It’s too bad you didn’t have a small pullets to put with her to become friends with.
What breeds? I’ve heard it can take up to six months for some of the heritage. You must be super close!I have 1 that is 25 weeks and no eggs yet

Unless they are laying somewhere in the barn and I don’t see them![]()
