Update on the Story situation and whole hearted thank yous to everyone who chimed in with advice!!

Story seems completely recovered and is walking normally. I never found any injury that was visible so I have to assume it was muscle pull or something along those lines. After a 3 nights inside and off the roosts he is right as rain.

To address the roosting issue I couldn’t move that dang ladder out by myself it’s really in there and in a rather awkward place and I do not have help right now, my husband has been working alot. So, I decided to run an experiment.

I have one long roosting bar like 4 ft long that not one chicken uses. I think because its about 1” lower then the rest of the bars.
So I took a 3” diameter pipe (pvc) we had laying around and stuck it above the offending unused 2x4 and drilled holes in it and attached it securely. This means that the pipe is now approximately one inch above the rest of the roosting area and its farther from the ladder. I put peanut butter and scratch in various places along the bar and waited till dark.

I didn’t expect this to work honestly but it totally did! When I went out everyone was rearranged and new spots had been claimed and no one was on the ladder at all.

So, I will keep checking on em for a few more nights before declaring victory.
