Here’s something that happened today. One of the many stray cats around here, got her head stuck in an empty corn can. Must have dug it from the trash and wanted to lick the bottom. It was really stuck on the cat, but I got it off. Several puncture wounds on my hand and one very frightening kitty later, it’s okay now. :old :he
Strays are plentiful and dumb around here!
Clean those wounds well. Good job!

Glad you've done that and will be in contact with thr doctor.

Next time (if it comes to that), burrito wrap the cat in a towel so at least the claws are contained. You can burn the towel later (prevent spreading anything the cat has)

Did the cat bite you? If so, I would get a post exposure rabies shot ASAP.
And if they are only claw marks be very diligent on cleaning and monitoring for infection - cat bites and scratches are second to none in causing infection because they are small and very deep so hard to get them properly cleaned.

Make sure you wash that hand - omg do not go handling strays like that! Please talk to a Dr about those wounds, cats can carry rabies and all sorts of terrible germs in their mouth and claws.

My small animal vet lost her index finger when a cat bit her finger, it got infected and into the bone - there was nothing they could do she had to have her finger amputated.

@featherhead007 - I don't think you would count Pony as one of the overly sissy about this stuff - she is 100% right - I am a cat lover but their wounds are NASTY. Please take care and get the rabies shot.

I know I owe SHRA tax on this - but really this is a message that deserves being said twice!

Tax anyway - bad screenshot but made me laugh. Sylvie is most put out that Calypso’s big fluffy butt is blocking access to her nest. Calypso reported back to the others that there is nothing interesting in there. No eggs. Nothing. So they are all still mystified why Sylvie is so anxious to be back in there.

These are the eggs of our lives, as our nests turn, with us The Bold and the Brilliant 😁

The more stories I hear of Marty, the more I am convinced I could get along with that hen and treasure her. I have spent the weekend going out and spending time with Poppet. She is no longer afraid of me and we have had a break through. No treats needed, all I have to do now is go out and just squat down in the coop. I have her willingly hopping up onto my leg to snuggle up in under 2 minutes. Even though she is a love bug I see sass in her. That sass is not directed towards me, but I think it could be if she were broody. I am not afraid, bring on the sass, I welcome it. I am also very seriously considering not letting her have unlimited free range access but instead building a run extension onto the coop. I will find her a friend if I do that, I can see Flurry the cochin not minding being kept in a run. She is not huge on free-ranging anyway, she sticks very close to the coop and in the barn isle. She only comes to the back steps when food is involved. I also think if his cochin lady is involved, Branch would also not mind being contained for longer periods either. I don't know, it is just something I have been pondering on.
It would be safer for them on the one hand, and easier if you wanted to raise silkies, and even silkie/Cochin cross babies.

You can always let them have some free range time when you’re around.

FYI the chuckle emoji is for the crazy chooks

Need a hug emoji for Alex and his wounds, but job well done freeing wild kitty 😊

Yikes on the cat wounds! They can be so nasty!

I made my final argument in favor of the chickens...we bought four for eggs and only three are known girls. So...two little decorative chickens should make up the eggs Thane won't be laying :p plus I want them.
We'll see what hubby says, if he says no then I'll be out of luck.
Poor Hubby, just do what I do and just bring them home 😊 once they see them they fall in love with them 💕

Or in my case I have a crap load and no one notices another couple added in. Like my 3 Azurs which just showed up one day 😊

An older hen can show the yougsters how to roost, and all sorts of chicken things that we humans can’t show them.
