Indeed not. They are really supposed to deter foxes. As long as they can fly back in, I am OK with her going out.
Saw the electric fence do it’s job yesterday when a poor old, very big but sickly skinny raccoon with a broken tail showed up on our front deck in the late morning. It went over to the chicken runs, and right to the gate. There it stopped and must have touched the fence, it jumped and left. Glad for the fence, felt badly for the raccoon to be in such a state. :(

Gosh 20 eggs - ambitious isn’t she!

There is a hatchery in the US that has them but doesn’t ship to Canada. Just as well, chicken math happened here this year, though I would like a couple of dark Brahma 😊💕
@Ribh sadly, they ship to US post office at a border community. Then Canadian has to cross the border, collect the chicks, and recross back to Canada, WITH health papers on the chicks. Just looked. The papers add $75 to the order.

They have dark brahmas and several types of Marans (including Cuckoo) and bielefelders in addition to the Campines. Several of my birds came from them, too.

The Spuds roosted in the coop! Yay!

I really had assumed they wouldn’t so soon. We were on a zoom call with friends, so I didn’t monitor the evening. Didn’t even bother to check the cameras before going out, I just went out there. My heart dropped when they weren’t on their usual perch. Saw a tipped-over water bottle, and thought maybe there’s been a scuffle and something bad has happened. Checked the veranda: no one. OK don’t panic, check the coop, and hope they’re in there. Opened the back and took a peek.
What a relief. Yes! They’re in there! All lined up snuggled together on the towel. And Popcorn is with Hazel in the nestbox. I couldn’t contain myself and praised everyone in there, I heard peeps in return, then I closed it up and left to not disturb them any more. Here’s screenshots taken when I got back inside. One Spud had just gotten up and turned around.

Ooooo! I love this one!

Because the image is taller than my screen, at first I thought it was a cool moon/sky picture. Then I saw the mountains, then the field.

Then I started at the bottom and slowly scrolled up. Like walking in the field, seeing the mountains, and then looking up to the moon and sky. Lovely.

'mature and settle down' comes well AFTER the teenage years, you know! (just look at humans!) Since most of them haven't started laying, then it is waaaaayyyy to early for them to have 'settled down'.
I thought Muffy might be interested in laying this morning she sure was squawking like the others - I showed her a nest box but nope not interested.

Awww that’s so wonderful, I know that panic feeling though when you expect normal and it’s been changed up!

It’s so wonderful they feel so comfortable going in there on their own. They are growing up so fast now 💕❤️

I was surprised at the cost for the health papers that over $100 Canadian funds. But yes they have the breeds I want: cuckoo Marans - but it doesn’t look like the French variety (no leg feathers in the photos), and Dark Brahma 💕

I might chat with Peavey Mart and see how they get their chicks in from Hoovers because they would have to come across the border with health papers I assume. Or maybe some sort of agreement with the border because it’s day olds.

Or maybe Hoovers can get Campines in. I’ll start looking at this in February,
