I may have found a new tenant for the front house. She’s a long time postal employee. I’m only considering the possibility.

Light is in the house every morning, eating her own breakfast. She also lays most of her eggs in the house. Occasionally she has to lay in the run because we are at work.![]()
I see they have their own accommodations in your house, as well. Maybe I need to make a chicken room in my house??? (Not sure hubby would be enthusiastic about that. ) The dog would LOVE the constant ability to sniff at their door, though!

If Light knows the kitchen so well, why don’t you ask her to make breakfast for you both?Light is in the house every morning, eating her own breakfast. She also lays most of her eggs in the house. Occasionally she has to lay in the run because we are at work.
Light has become an incredible chicken. The whole first floor is her accommodation! She knows her way around and where to get bugs. Light follows me or my husband a lot in the morning, especially if we are going to the kitchen area. She knows she gets good stuff in the kitchen. She will run from far away if she hears the fridge opens ...

My husband also often brings her inside late afternoon, so she really "helps" me to make chicken dinner by sampling all the foods first to make sure her flock can consume them safely.
Now they've segregated themselvesThe Spuds in the sun on the veranda today

Later in the day when we returned from a walk I found Popcorn and two Spuds all piled into the nestbox, on alert. I looked there with the camera because at first all I could find was one Spud alone, hunkered down in the run litter under a low corner roost, and Hazel standing still under the coop. Something frightened them?
(Only thing I could find was the (just emptied) poo bucket, tipped over. If someone had jumped on it and knocked it over it would have made a startling sound because it had had a lid and a stone on it.)
I think they're all getting nicely integrated...yes Popcorn still chases every now and then, but it's once in a while. Other times when she and Hazel forage that's the Spuds' cue to get out there with them and forage nearby too. And when it matters they'll pile into the nestbox together no problem!
No roosting shenanigans tonight, everybody's in
