In progress. They have slivers of raw pumpkin. Will be mixing mash with roast pumpkin when it's done (in oven now). The rest got chunks of raw pumpkin to work on....looks like they decided to go for pea tree seeds instead.![]()

I just did a huge sigh of relief! Thank God. I was dreading hearing from you.
How about some bread or oatmeal for Twirp? Meat?
Coke (not diet) and Gatorade are good substitutes as well.Ok sounds good, skip a dose tonight since you gave a whole one. Tomorrow morning can give a half pill, twice a day.
Also I wouldn’t make the feed up with the electrolytes, those are salts and as with us too much salt can be bad, I would make two water sources, one with electrolyte water and one just clean water. They will use the electrolytes if they need it.
Also did you know that a mixture of salt and sugar is as good substitute for the store bought stuff. That is what endurance riders used to give their horses. 1/2 tsp of salt and a couple tablespoons of sugar in a litre of water.
Yummy!
No. Go out. You have done what you can do for her for now.I feel mean but I was going out for a few hours to catch up with old friends I haven't seen I leave in half an hour but should I cancel.
Twirp is eating!!! Hector is crowing outside and Whiskey is answering.
I'm making some popcorn so they got a handful of popped corn. She ate that too. 1st round of roasted pumpkin is cooling. 2nd round is in. (3 white pumpkins processed. Still have an orange one to go, then seeds to cook. Sardines will be mixed into the mash also.
I think Poppet is about as big as she is going to get height wise. She may broaden some and put on a little weight. Chiquita was similar, short but stocky. I really hope weight wise Poppet eventually gets to be where Chiquita was, I just do not see it happening. Poppet truly may have been 5 months old when I got her. The baby chick peeps are gone, and have been for a week. I do not think she is going to lay a egg this fall. She has daily visits with Branch and I watch him. He encourages bathing, eating and they groom each other. Not once has he attempted or even offered to try to breed her yet. I have learned to trust my boys, Branch and Bubba. They know when a hen is reaching maturity. Once they show interest that way, the first egg is normally a week away.Is Poppet going to get as big as Branch, or even close?
I really cannot check the Marans eggs early on. I try to but it is near impossible. 18 days in you should be able to tell with those dark eggs. If there is a chick in them they will be all black, if they are duds it seems then they light up like a Christmas light. I am so excited and have everything crossed for several pullets from the power couple.I think my niece sent over something like it I must check or maybe it’s Vetrx,…
This morning I hauled Henny off the nest to eat drink poop. I placed a small towel over the eggs to help keep them warm.
She ran around eating, she dug through some horse poop picking at bits of grain, I laughed when Ren Hen calmly cleaned Henny’s beak and beard - the look Henny initially gave her was hilarious. But she let Red continue.
Then after about 15 min she hustled back to her nest, I removed the towel and she snuggled back onto the eggs. I am a bit worried the back two eggs might not be getting enough warmth, I may shuffle the eggs a bit twice a day when she is off the nest to make sure they all get warmth. I also numbered Mart’s eggs (1, 2, 3) as I hadn’t done that yet.
Tuesday evening I will candle the eggs to make sure no cracks, and see if I can see any veins - darker egg shell can be tough though. I really don’t know how Rebecca checks her Marans eggs!!
I am thrilled to hear she is eating. I am also happy the missing ones appeared.Twirp is eating!!! Hector is crowing outside and Whiskey is answering.
