Hey rooster, get down from there! IMG_3743.jpeg

Catching up just a few days, and what an emotional rollercoaster. Virtual hugs to @Lilion, @rural mouse, and @Marie2020.

Pony Sunday. See you the arabian and his mini donkey friend Trotrot that for once stayed inside with him, still in the mountains with the first frost, but they are stabled at night.
(Gribouille the old horse is still with the cows, and they are on pasture on the place next to ours this week so we see them a lot 🙂.)

Today was a rainbow day. Rainbow weather feels like a metaphor of chicken keeping - a mix of dark and gloomy with sun and cheers and beauty. Hoping that all of us having sad chicken happenings will get a piece of rainbow 🌈.

Dottie and Quincy, who have been hit by the molt stick. Poor dears, at least they still have good appetites and enjoy scratching. They’ve been getting moist chick mash (we call it their overnight oats here).

Dottie is particularly indignant about the state of affairs (she is quite a regal Head hen) and seems to actually want to show me her pin feathers.

Welcome to the FBA community - my guess is you have already understood about tax, but if not, then read the primer in @BY Bob's signature. I just LOVE that picture of Dottie!
Okay, I’m not usually tech illiterate… but how do I find this primer? Is opening someone’s signature just clicking on their user name?

She's gone 😢
I'm so sorry. :hugs

I'm happy they're doing well. How sad for the others though. I love dogs, but I don't trust them around chickens.
I would certainly keep track and try to watch them a much as I can. That is a big wound. It either was one big trauma or a lot of little ones. If it was a lot of little ones you should be able catch them at it.
I have her secured away from the others for now.

Eenie seems okay. She's spending more time in the little coop than I'd like. But she comes out to eat and she seems okay. I'm not seeing any signs of infection.

All alone with the other 3, Tres seems to be getting bullied. :( Manny pecks him viciously if he comes within 2 feet. He's looking really unhappy.

I still think both roos are going to go. I know what will happen...but I'm telling myself they'll be enjoying life on a bachelor farm.

Daylight savings is making the days really short. Eenie isn't laying. I suppose that's normal, given her injury. Her body is healing instead of trying to make babies. Meanie is laying about 2 out of 3 days. Sheba continues to be my rock star. I get 13 eggs out of 14 days now. They may be small...but they're plentiful. After all my worry about her, she's still quite the hen.

They'll all be happier as single ladies though, I think.

Granite and Quartz had gone through the hedge, putting them off property, and the dog's owner was willing to pay for them. I can't quibble on that one. The schnauzer was in the yard and the other dog (on friday) was on the deck. Both of them were visiting down below, and went home yesterday, I think. Why the dogs want to come up here and sniff around rather than go out in the horse pasture, I don't know.
With the Christmas stuff coming out, I'm mighty tempted to get that red rider bb gun....
They likely were chased there...Dogs might smell the chickens plus the pup and be attracted up there.... Dogs roam....They want to check out their stomping grounds, if they had lived there before, and if not, they don't smell a reason not to explore. The gun - all the attacks have happened when you're not there it seems, or have you been there?
