I’m just sitting out here, and the ladies decided to sit (or stand) near me. So I snapped a picture.
I was sharing my meally worms with them. View attachment 3681634
'Just decided to sit/stand near me"??????

no, of course the meally worms had NOTHING to do with THAT decision.!:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

Felicitas is molting. Hard molt too. And she doesn't want to eat the feed. She just wants junk food. Does anyone else's hens do this or no? How should I get her to eat the feed?
She says her pin feathers are very painful and that she'll sue anyone who touches them.
For the most part, they know what they need to eat and everybody survives what looks like weird appetite changes and worrying weight loss. I recall that some chickens have very severe weight loss which could become a concern. She needs to continue drinking, so monitor that, and her poo may become watery, which is normal.

You can offer her a variety of foods and treats, especially high-protein ones. First off try her feed in a different form, like a mash. Supplement with scrambled eggs, Fresh bugs and worms that they can dig by themselves my gang liked (spiders too) so time doing that would be good if possible. But she may eat what you can find for her too.

Hazel really wanted to eat earthworms and dandelion leaves the first time she molted really hard. It may be the nutrients in those things she needed. She did eat some mealworms and salt-free sardines, I think some yogurt too.

If you know her weight now you can monitor her, which may relieve some worry. At least know her body condition by how her keel feels.

Pony Sunday

More BFTP (blast from the past) photos for me and Malaka in Lexington, Kentucky Horse Park. I am warming up and then I am waiting for my class. I am thinking 2004, Malaka would be 3 yrs old and I would be much younger than now!! 😊💕❤️

It isn't better 😞. We kept him crated for three or four days and it didn't make any difference. We have looked him over multiple times and can't figure out what is wrong. We are going to try Epsom salt soaks next.

On the positive side, his tail is up and he can actually move pretty fast in his gimpy way. He still crows and tidbits. I witnessed Regan (pullet) squat for him today and he gave it the ol' college try, but everything looked very crooked and I don't think it was successful. I am happy though that the girls still spend time with him and he doesn't seem to be depressed.
You’d be surprised at how Hardy these creatures are. Before she got sick, Madame had a broken toe for months and I didn't see her limp. The only way I found out is when I was looking at her little bird feet to see if everything was fine.

If you can’t fix his foot, just know that you tried and maybe he will live a good life with you.

My only egg laying hen I have lately. The other hens are jealous of her. It’s sad 😞 View attachment 3681637
I just have Splotch and BBQ. I don’t think that the other girls are jealous because they won’t step up their game.
That’s a pretty lady you have there. Which one is she?
And did you ever get those chicks that you wanted a few weeks ago?
