She had over an hour and a half. Then a foot toe and legs soak with plenty of castor oil rubbed in.

It's started to rain so now she is happily munching on her corn on the cob in the run.

It'll be dark here soon so I don't feel she has had such a bad day. Because of her time out with pusscat and eating her favourite bits of grass and dandelion leaves
What time does the sun go down there? I think you’re at a higher latitude than were I live and likely get less daylight hrs than me.

My chooks were not interested in coming in last evening as it turned sunny, I felt guilty making them come in but I needed to feed horses and get things closed up for the night. I will let them outside today again, they won’t get let out this week as mum won’t risk them running away and I don’t want her to stress over them. It’s ok the barn has horse poop and straw to dig through hahaha!

Yep. These are the ones I have in other pens.

That’s a handful!

That’s a handful!
It is a bit but I mean I'm home everyday all day. We hang out and have fun.
I'm only hatching for myself to keep the lines going. The 14 babies were in honor of my first flocks first babies but I don't think I'll be that sentimental again. That was a lot at once.

My veterinarian got back to me on a way for humanely euthanizing a chicken if I didn't want to wait till he could get back out here.

I think I will be able to do this, will need to research it personally.

OK so read that this is not effective...

https://www.theeverydaymomlife.com/how-to-humanely-kill-a-chicken/

will need to read more on this.
The vet here did give Peanut a liquid knock-out medicine by mouth first, but that just put her into some sort of sleep. It took a couple of minutes for her. She then used another med by a vein to actually euthanize her. We waited until Peanut appeared to be truly unconscious and the vet said to not wait long after that because the sleep is not a normal sleep and if you wait it can feel distressing to them. :(

So my boss told me about humanly dispatching with CO2. you get a tote with a sealed lid. Cut a hole for the tube. Make it air tight. Then you put them in and slowly turn on the gas. It's a 2 part process but they just go to sleep.
In phase one, birds are exposed to carbon dioxide up to a concentration of 40% for a period long enough to render them unconscious. They then continue into the second phase, whereby the concentration of CO2 exceeds 40% and the birds are killed.
We work st an environmental xonsevation protection and development company and he said this is an approved humane way

I don’t think so, I have been pushing pain meds regularly. She sure likes her food, she is right in there with everyone else when I throw out treats and left overs. But other than that she stands around hunched up, sleeping.

My big concern now is seeeing how my mum can get her to take her pain meds.
How many times a day does she get the pain meds? Can you do it at night when you're home (I thought your job is a local day job not a travel one?)
