I have given up watching for Pooh and Calypso! Will today be the day? Trudy/Judy one of the rocks has been in the porch nest box twice today. The first time she spent about 2 minutes in it before getting out. The 2nd time she spent 30 minutes in it. It is getting late so I am starting to doubt first egg will come today but there is still time. I feel safe in saying she will lay before Friday. Owly pay attention, you are old enough now. The whole house is waiting to see what color egg you will lay. Blue, Green or Pink I am good with either.
Technically I have 6 old enough now to begin laying. I am most excited for Owly and Poppet. Poppet had better wait until spring though.I have given up watching for Pooh and Calypso!
Buy her a SONY Walkman or something.Lydia did and still takes forever. She starts an hr before she is even ready I think. She came in and out of the box constantly for the first few times.
Now she is just prissy and high ridiculous about it. She yells if anyone is in her box then she has to fluff and sit just right. Heaven forbid someone enter the coop and disturbs her vibe. She starts all over. Once she is actually ready she'll softy sing to herself and it still takes 10 to 15 min.
My Dotty (RIP) was like that. She had a thing about my legs and eventually went all out attack mode. I have no idea what my legs ever did to her. It was definitely aggression.I have a question for you all. Have any of you had a hen actively stalk you, growling like only a chicken can head down looking like a rooster ready to attack? I have never even had a cockerel full in his idiot phase act this aggressive. One of the speckled sussex's is doing this. Fairly certain it is Dottie. This behavior has been building up for about a month now. It started as simply following me around. Then the growling while following. Now she is got her head down and hackles slightly flared. This IS a pullet I am sure of it. I grabbed her yesterday and inspected her hackle and sickle feathers. Rounded pullet/hen shaped. I asked and I am the only one she is doing this too. I am very very close to treating her like a do a stupid teenage roo and snatch her up and start carrying her around while I do chores.
