Hello everybody!
I fluffed the leaf pile in the run nice and tall, and the chooks all ran for it, bellowing “Down with the pile!”.

Okay so gross question:
Whiskey’s poop has, in the span of just a couple of days, gone from little chick poos to largish adult turds (perfectly healthy looking ones). Internet searches say this doesn’t indicate anything pertinent to laying… however widening pelvic bones can show that a chicken is near POL, right? Has anybody else noticed this? Am I just too eager for green eggs 🤪

I hear ya! I know, KNOW, KNOW! that winter is coming, we will get snow, water will freeze. And yet... Oh, dang, it snowed last night. I didn't think that would happen so soon!

Silly me.
Same 😩 And since having a second kid, my amorphous midsection doesn’t even fit my old winter coats like it should haha. Better order one for hannuka- don’t think I’ll be able to wait for a new Christmas coat 😁

Tax: Albert mid flight/leap up onto the vacant isolation pen.

I think you may be a little eager. 😆

That is one great photo! 👍

Greetings all! Spent a bit of time today rain-proofing the roof of the coop. We hung plastic sheeting to make it run somewhere besides the coop, especiallythe roosts! Gotta keep those feet dry since it's getting down in the 20s some nights Hopefully that will do for this winter. I'm so looking forward to getting them in the new coop next year!

The molt is being especially unkind to my little red hens. Eenie is still at the bottom of the pecking order. Got to witness a dust-up between her and Meanie today. Poor Een. She looks awful.

I hope she gets some comfort from the fact that Meanie looks darn near as bad! Even her beard and muffs are scraggly.

Sheba continues to be my rockstar. The only one still laying. The molt has been kinder to her so far. She and Meanie are still BFFs and are in charge for sure. Best of all, Sheba is walking and standing like a hen and NOT a penguin! I was so worried about that, but now I think she was just sore all the time from Manny's constant attentions.

Tres has finally started crowing, according to my husband. I haven't heard him. He's a scruffy fella.

And finally, the only one who looks pretty these days is gentle little Uno...who I've decided will henceforth be called Goldie. She's become such a pretty little girl.

Goldie and Tres are right at 19-20 weeks... but I don't think I'll get any eggs this year with the days getting so short. I look forward to next spring.

Hope all is well with you!
