Maybe @RoyalChick could source some dead rabbits and mice and keep them supplied through the winter. I have no idea how. But I had a band-mate that kept a big snake and had frozen mice in his freezer that he bought from somewhere.
Well I can trap plenty of mice!
And judging by the noises I could invite the foxes in to the attic!

We have mice that come in waves in early winter. And I think our attic housed a flying squirrel one winter too. Red squirrels nested up there once. Bats (or a bat, there used to be more) have been sheltering in our rough-cut siding which turns out to be ready-made bat housing.
So yes - bait the fence again for a pre-winter training session. Then I'd suggest diversion and reward - throw dead mice out on the other side of your house, and on a regular schedule, but not when the chickens are out too. So the fox come around to check at a different time, not dusk or late afternoon. Like bait and switch!

More Caturday Saturday

I happened upon my old phone and charged it up, and found these beautiful beasts, I think I have posted the before but they are so lovely I had to post again, mama and her kittens

After weeks of being 100+ pgs behind I finally made it! Busy busy. This time of year is when our Broadway shows start coming through, while I am grateful for the work, it makes for a very long week. Did one show the week or so before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving with all the family, a show last weekend and on Sunday my mother in law passed away.
Our weather has been swinging like crazy. Below freezing for 3 days followed by torrential rain and almost 70! Yesterday was a mostly sunny if cool reprieve. Today has been cold and wet, don't think we got above 38. The days are so short I hardly see my chickens, but I popped out to hang with them for a min or two recently.
How many animals can you find?

Two cats - THREE cats - I thought the one in front was a chicken! - and three chickens. Six?

That's a lot of work stress, and then having a family member pass away, that's a lot. So sorry for your loss :hugs :hugs

Very sorry to hear of your mother inlaw passing😞 always hard this time of year. I hope your family is doing ok

Thanks everyone. Very sad, a little in shock, but doing ok. She had a very rough year going through cancer treatment. While she beat the cancer it was all too much for her heart. She went to the hospital on Saturday because she hadn't really been eating and was dehydrated, after a few hours she perked right up and was reminding Bill of her upcoming appointments. Sunday morning she asked for morphine so she could rest, she knew it was unlikely she would wake up again. Really hard for those of us still here, but her choice. 😭💗

That's interesting. I've never considered something like this.
