That was interesting. Happened to look out my window and saw a chicken bopping along outside the run. Just as I was headed out the phone rang. A neighbor had called my husband because he saw a chicken loose.

Sure enough, it was Meanie. She's my only girl to ever get out of the run before. I don't know how she did it this time, since I closed up the hole. But the run has never been predator proof...or determined hen proof.

I managed to trick her into the small coop...and Tres, on the other side of the fence, was acting quite annoyed she was there. 😡

I guess I'll try to catch her tonight when she's sleeping and move her back to the main coop. But I am a bit concerned. I've not had chickens long enough to know what to do when the pecking order changes so dramatically.

They need to figure it out on their own. If you think the cockerel is becoming a hormonal idiot might have to separate them, I would spend some time just observing them to see what’s going on. Sometimes it’s surprising what actually is going on.

It was literally yesterday I posted that video of him running from her! He must have heard me saying to grow a little backbone.

I watched this evening when I saw a dark shape on the veranda, waiting to go in. It was a Spud, looking for her chance to get in and stay in. She would get in but run out because Hazel and Popcorn apparently also have to work things out. Most of the action was between them, causing Popcorn to hide from her and crowd in on the Spuds giving them pecks in turn.
Miss Hazel let Popcorn know she is her better with a surprising number of pecks. Not viscious hard pecks, but when Popcorn got close enough, she would reach over in the dim light with these “any-chance-I-get-gonna-peck-yer-head-a-few-times-there-like-that-yup-just-like-that-and-that-and-maybe-peck-the-air-but-if-you’re-there-it’ll-land-sometimes-too!”

Popcorn ends up on the divider

The Spuds all piled in here

I wonder if I take the divider out does that give them more lateral room to do their do-si-does and more easily settle down? Nobody is laying now….
