Stay safe there in the wilds of NJ.Mine are staying in as well. It is miserable out there. Lots of flooding. Amazingly I haven’t lost power although there are a lot of trees down and roads closed all around me.
My Princesses seem unconcerned.
Store bought eggs are also inferior in baked goods as well. Save up your new fresh ones for baking and feed those store ones back to the girls in a scramble. My egg drought is over as well.
I'll be using up the vastly inferior store bought eggs in baked goods.
Remember you can catch up via the weekly synopsis.
I think @ManueB has the technology to post the links to the last few.
I cannot wait for pictures. Mr. P may look funny but it is in his best interest. He needs to see really more then the rest of the flock. One of his most important jobs is to look out for predators. Big hair may be handsome but it is impractical. Shorter feathers may also deter the ladies from giving him their own haircuts and causing another blood bath. Really girls, were you trying to give your mother a heart attack.Oh gosh! No he is 100% goodit looked worse than it was. If he were a black chicken I wouldn’t have even noticed it right away.
But I trimmed him really short - brush cut like!![]()
They might rebel!Save up your new fresh ones for baking and feed those store ones back to the girls in a scramble.
Granted thankfully I have not been without at least 1 hen in production for 2 years now. I have come to the point that even if it is for as something as simple as a egg in cornbread, fresh egg only. I have even managed to do the once thought impossible and turn my extremely picky sister into a fresh egg snob. They might rebel!
I'll use the store eggs for things like grownies, where the eggs are for binding and protein, and don't add to the taste.
A couple of years ago I froze eggs from my Princesses - they work fine in baked goods, and of course as chicken treats.I wish I hadn't bought a dozen eggs last week. I have 16 store eggs in the fridge.
3 for hubby's Christmas lemon meringue pie
3 for my GF bread
Maybe hardboil the rest for snacks.
