So...truthfully, I know this is sacrilege, but I totally can't taste the difference between store bought eggs and eggs from my hens. 🫢

Maybe because mine don't free-range, but when we buy them, we get the cheap store brand.

I have some frozen too, since my husband brought home eggs from work once this summer. They were at the end of their "good" period... in fact i ended up tossing some. Im looking forward to trying them.

We still have the little "tables" from when the chicks needed to hide (ironically) and they're tall enough for her to go under. But she likes to squeeze in that space under the feeder...who knows?
I would say as long as she can’t get wedged in there and stuck or have the others beat on her then she will need to figure out a way to cope.

If you think she might get stuck or injured I would try to eliminate that spot. Hopefully she can learn to cope and get along.

The area under the coop flooded on Sunday. It looks like the creeks and rivers are going to stay in their banks. So far so good here. Thanks for asking.

Gosh that’s scary, but very glad the banks are holding. Meanwhile your ladies seem to be coping well with being contained ❤️

No, she's actually growing her feathers back at this point.

It's been a revealing few days. I watched as best I could, and it's pretty clearly Tres she's avoiding. She will come out of hiding to scratch and eat with any of the ladies, but that big boy comes in and she pretty much immediately dives for cover. I actually never even saw him try mating. He just comes near and she's in a panic.

That doesn't mean there isn't quite a power struggle going on. Tonight I found Goldie attempting to insert herself between Meanie and Sheba on the top roost. Meanie was less than pleased. Sheba, as always, was Switzerland.

I actually did move Goldie down to the lower roost. I probably should have let them just deal with it, but who knows what she did when I left?

Perhaps the young princess has thoughts of becoming queen?
The human is going to comment on the goings on.

Please correct me if I m wrong but everything was likely settled when you showed up with the flashlight. I'm going to suggest that you get a red light for coop checking. Those headlamps are great because your hands are free and they usually have a red light. I try to never use a flashlight when checking on the ladies because it gives Aurora another chance to peck at others.

Glodie was probably settled in nice having already absorbed her pecks for the evening when your flashlight gave Meanie a second shot at her.

I have moved hens before but in my experience it doesn't usually work. Now I observe the results but never "how the sausage is made" because it only upsets me and nothing I do has ever made a difference.

Possible. That flashlight is actually pretty dim and I shined it on them because I heard the scuffle. What I filmed wasn't the first. No way to know.

Unfortunately, I have a bit of nyctophobia...I need light. They'll have to adapt.

The complex is very large and comfortable. They may need to spend months there in the dead of winter so it needs to be comfy. They just won't choose to stay there during bad weather. Moving forward I'm going to confine them more during bad weather. It's just better for them.
