Hey everyone! Hope you had a great holiday and plan on a better one upcoming. I'll still be in and out, but I'll try to keep up.

I'm so sorry you've had such a horrible time! There just aren't enough hugs. :hugs

I understand this too. My father was a very good man, truly. But, he was born in 1911, grew up poor, farmed. To him, animals were livestock. Even dogs were supposed to be useful. He shot more than one in his time, if they started loafing or bothering livestock or being destructive. I do know my mom had a little Boston Terrier before I was born that she adored. They were married 14 years before my older brother was born so he was her baby. I would love to know what he'd thought of him. In my life I only knew of him allowing one in the house, and only on the coldest nights. He once said you don't love animals, only people.

But that didn't stop him from bringing in the runt piglets for us to raise.

I'm so glad I had a chance to post this. View attachment 3714839

I still have a rooster. I'm still thinking about it. I am leaning toward rehoming him still.

I had a surprise in the coop today! Someone joined Sheba! View attachment 3714844

Having to make a major dietary change which will be rough. I don't get to eat any more of the wonderful rich holiday food in my house! And I need to go back to cold-brew coffee, so it isn't as inflammatory. But, I need to do this change so I will be tough.

On the plus side, I made bread.

@Lilion I need to show my chickens this!

This is shocking so I'll say up front that my Dad is not a softie. I had a beautiful long haired cat as a child. It lived inside and outside as we had the farm, so to speak. One day the cat just disappeared. My brother and I searched for days trying to find the cat. Walking over over the hills and woods calling her name. We never found her.

Last year he decided to tell me that he took my cat out in the woods and shot it because it was killing rabbits and leaving them on the stoop. He liked to hunt rabbits.

My Dad was not a nice man. "Is" might be a better word than "was". Why tell me now?

Sad tax

That’s an old wound made fresh and deeper. You don’t say if an apology was part of it. Likely not. I’m so sorry :hugs :hugs

Lovely photos of the girls!

Sorry to hear abotu dietary changes - that can be very tough. But...for most people, once they have managed it for a bit and have adjusted - it usually gets easier - fewer cravings/desires for the 'old stuff'. Especially since frequently one slip up brings symptoms raging back because your body really isn't used to it anymore - and the discomfort reinforces the 'nope, no desire to eat THAT'.

So, in short: tough at first, but once adapted, most people don't have too much trouble sticking with it. :hugs :hugs Hugs for the next few weeks - month trying to adapt.
:thumbsup Because once you do, you will probably feel much better AND have far fewer cravings for what you have cut out.

Today I found myself chasing down this Whiskeyraptor. She has zero chill when it comes to Perry.

The mature gals, however, let Perry join in on some before bed mash! How tolerant, how promising ☺️

Whiskey is probably the lowest in the pecking order then? Bob reminded me that Popcorn, being the lowest ranked in the original Buckeye gang, would be the fiercest in defending her place against any of the new Spuds getting ahead of her. It’s not necessarily age as it is pecking order, and then the willingness to fight to defend that order (or advance up by defeating others). Is this the case here?
