Now the social worker is coming for their first visit this morning. We have a lovely 30 minute notice. Grandma slept good for once and is still asleep. That means me and mom both got a good solid 8 hours when she called and mom was still sleeping. Sigh, my dishes are not done and the floor needs swept. Mom informed me not to worry, this was life and the table was cleaned off where she is going to sit to talk to us. Grandma does not need to be up for this visit, she is getting background history of how she grew up.

For all of you looking at building coops: build something wind proof. You might think my coop is wind proof. Think again. Make sure it has tons of structural rigidity and can withstand being rammed in to. Ours has slight permanent damage (as far as I know) from the wind literally yanking the tarp-roof (don't do that, make a real roof), and as a result pulling the coop together and almost toppling one of the walls. Even if you have to make it shorter (which we are going to have to do to make it more wind proof according to Mom) it's worth it for you, your chickens, and everyone around you.

2nd highest chicken here. Felicitas will try to eat your hand if she feels like it because her blue eggs are special. She's never gone broody.

(Great. Now she's going to. Sigh.)

This is very sound advice. :goodpost:

If you read my coop build article I called out everything that led to the design of our coop. It is very important that you list out what you need before you even start to conceive your coop. That way you can test your ideas against your needs.
