Checking the Hen House B

Tonight Raven and Sharpie had gone to roost on there when I got home, the other pullets though still are going to the Summer House. I had to hand carry them to the new roost.

Meanwhile Eli-too and now also Petunia have decided they want to roost in Hen House A with the big ladies. Bet it’s those two brats who have Mr P all pecked and bleeding on his head feathers.

They have the colour coordination happening 😊

Brrrr. I went out to turn off the fence energizer so it doesn't run the battery down. I took the fence down so Calypso could come back easily after the hawk attack - but now it is buried under snow and the ground is frozen - so I will have to wait for some melting before I put it up again.
It was interesting to see how (almost) all the animal prints go around the outside of the fence even though it isn't actually there. They really do learn to avoid it.
However, someone came inside the chicken yard and left these prints right by the door. WDYT? Fox? Coyote? Neighbor's dog?

Also cute, though not quite as artsy as @Ponypoor's chicken feet in snow I saw these inside the covered chicken run where a dusting of snow had blown in.

I would guess those prints might be a fisher.

Bert - I tried to get his butterscotch coloured spots, he sure is a cutie, he sure does remind me of Henny Penny even though she isn’t his egg mama

Oh and someone was crowing this morning- any guesses as to whom! I am sure it’s Bert but with Sophia and Penelope also crowing at times who can be sure, but it sounded like a young roosterlette starting to crow so likely Bert.

Betty, is certainly a frizzle like her mama 😊

Blanche got a ride in the wheelbarrow- not sure why she likes it but she will hop up there when I am wheeling it.

And Muffy looking for a place to lay an egg and some straw to tear apart.

Crowing! How old is Bert now?
And how cute, Blanche in a barrow 😊

The chooks got out today while both kiddos were taking afternoon naps. They’re especially starved for greens at this time of year, so unsurprisingly headed straight for the lawn.
Perry nibbled a few blades here and there, then headed for higher ground. She seemed quite content with her vantage point.

Her One month of being adopted just passed!
I have the luxury of being able to take her integration slowly, but I do wish we would be further along by now. She still spends her days behind a protective fence. I think the real inhibitor is that I don’t have much free time to chaperone visits. And since they’re run-bound, it’s not really a safe space to just let them duke it out and have her flee from the bullies.
I’d welcome advice if anyone has any, in case there’s an approach I hadn’t thought of. Should I post this question on one of the forums?

I wish those girls would stop beating up Mr. P.

We had a couple of hours of sun today which was pretty and made everything nice a slick. Around 1 the rain started, it has made it all the way to 28° 😒
Lots of dripping, we seem to be in the icicle stage. Supposedly it will reach 50 tomorrow, i am sceptical.
The ladies decided 2 day in the coop was enough. Yesterday it was cold but dry and they did ok. Tonight they were afraid of leaving the front of the house, i finally had to chase them to bed. The auto door had closed it was so late. All tucked in now.

That cat is beautiful 😍

When you said zero I assumed above freezing hahaha - but that’s still darn chilly! My wimps would laugh and not go outside at all.
Fahrenheit! It was 17 (-8C) when I got home. Considering its been below zero (-17C) for the last several days (and hit -40 at one point, not including wind chill), HEAT WAVE! Sunbathing (provided it breaks through the cloud cover) is happening, now!

Bert and Betty are adorable. Silkies and apparently silkie crosses are just darn tricky. If we did not know 100% he was a boy he could still pass for a pullet right now. I believe he is going to make a mighty handsome boy one day. I also feel he is going to be a gentleman and do everyone on FBA proud.
