I am a couple days behind so I have to go back and catch up from roughly Saturday afternoon. First though I want to show you this picture I took yesterday evening. View attachment 3732770
That right there friends is all the eggs that have been laid since last Wednesday. 3 Rocks and 2 suspects. If they do not lay today and so far no one has the Leghorns will have been shut down for a week exactly. This cold and snow snap also completely shut down Blueberry who has been in production since last December after she was done raising her only brood of chicks. I want another week at least with no leghorn or Blueberry eggs, I doubt I will get it. Jumped from 30F yesterday to 60F in 24 hours and the snow is melting fast. Please girls, your health is more important then eggs, take advantage of this and hold off a few more days. Thanks to your overachievement I still have 4 dozen eggs that need used up before you come back online.
Glynda has taken the last 2 weeks off. Sydney has laid right through the bitter cold.

Dirt everyone, I can see dirt. Ok, well, mud, but it is brown so I will take it. The flock are currently enjoying leftovers from last night in their favorite scrap spot. The pasta noodles did not last long. Now everyone is fighting over their next favorite thing. Some may want to cover your ears for this one. Cannibals, they love and will fight over chicken scraps. Another thing to point out, Berthie is recovered just in time from her New Years Eve party with Phyllis and had enough feathers regrown in time to stay warm last week. She is the Queen sister with the black hackles.

Did they run right to the muddy creek?

They have lived on the creek bank today. They now have their much loved wild water and favorite digging spot back.
My wild water puddle (aka pee pit) is froze solid, and dumb Truly picked that spot to roll this morning, and then while (trying to) get up she slipped and fell down - I tell you at 05:00hrs when it’s pitch black outside and snowing/raining and you see your 1000lb horse go crashing down you freak out just a bit.

I was trying to keep chickens in, and go try to help her up….

Thank fully she managed to get up on her own, I don’t know how! Tonight I will give her some Phenylbutizone (like aspirin), as I am sure she will be sore.

And now I see Blanche Penelope Marty and Henny all roosting early at 2:30 - what’s that all about??

I would have thought they would have at least another hr or more to eat and frolic around. Henny bless her wee toes is still dragging along her babies - they will be 9 weeks tomorrow 😊 she’s such a good mama!

That would terrify me.

Wow! Those were beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

And of course your chooks as always are splendid 😊

I was wondering where you had got to haven’t seen you in a bit.
Life went bonkers.

Over the weekend, shifted departments at work....except had a perpetually changing date (no one knew exactly what was going on). Shift is done.

Went to in-laws after work Monday to help process a bison (they fell into opportunity). Going back on friday/Saturday to process the other one. Cutting and steaks were done by the time I got there. Double ground, weighed, and packaged roughly 100 pounds of burger. Didn't get home until late.

Woke early Tuesday. Started coffee pot, went to feed critters. Back to coffee to pour first cup...pot not working....check over, make sure no blockages...it won't even try. Head to town, gas up, get coffee, find place to run Sherlock, head home just in time to let out chickens and leave for work.

It's been THAT sort of a week...

Whoa Nelly! That’s a ‘fun’ packed week for sure. A Bison - wow that’s a feed for all, is it farm raised or wild run? We have lots of bison farms here eap in Alberta, and Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Wild herds are a ‘no touch’ so no hunting, I have had farm raised many times especially in camp, they have it, and I once brought home a huge rump roast in my luggage - a frozen boulder hehehe! Hard work butchering and packing it away.

Well I am glad you have returned we all missed your gorgeous chooks and of course Sherlock 💕
