I shoulda looked at your tags...
That's so out of season. Oh well, I guess we can do Spring early just like starting Christmas in November or whatever nonsense there was this year (big box membership store selling Christmas stuff in September. Stinkin' SEPTEMBER! Like, WHY? CHRISTMAS ISN'T FOR ANOTHER FEW MONTHS!).
Erm.... My local Walmart sold Christmas things from August!

Edit: And I'm talking about coats with Santa on them, the lights, decorations! Basically the full package! They at least should be selling Halloween stuff first!

And the obligatory tax…

Red says bug off Hooman and go away o am trying to sleep!

I am in the barn connecting my StarLink to everything. I have my internet in the barn and my cameras work.

Except now the silly stall lights are again not working - so it isn’t that one light causing the issue. I don’t know what the issue is. But I need to get it fixed fast.
Internet in the barn? Don't be surprised if you see some shiny device that the chooks are huddling over when you go out to them in the morning.

I'm getting a clearer idea of what's going on with Diane Ida-Biter and she's beginning to understand biting and hard pecking is not okay. I think her inner drives are very intense, she's both super food-oriented and very focused on me, much more than the other two Spuds. She's learning the boundaries and I can see (and hear in her vocalizations) how hard it is for her to resist her urge to peck to get what she wants. She still needs a reminder from me every day, always vocally and sometimes restraining her when that fails. She's battling her instinct to bite hard against her fear of discipline from me if she does (I warn her vocally, then with my finger raised, then peck her with it if she persists, then hold her down tipped on her side or hold her firmly under my arm if she fights me).

Lately her bites have been relatively gentle, no blood drawn and usually no bruising even but that's still not okay to go for my hands. She's allowed to preen my clothes and get dust bits off me, eat snow off my boots, and beak my pants just to hear the zippy sound it makes, undo seams and pull on threads and whatnot, climb on my back and shoulders and explore whatever, just nothing hard directed at my hands or bare skin.

They might be learning. Yesterday there was a group of them lightly pecking, pulling and exploring my lower back clothes as I crouched, and there must have been a bit of skin showing and I got a sharp peck back there. It wasn't too hard but their beaks are sharp! I yelped and jerked a bit, and suddenly it all stopped for a couple seconds. I didn't move further and everything resumed, but nobody pecked that spot again. Progress?
I find chickens to be incredibly smart, but then I find all birds to be very smart.

Why is it we tend not to think of chickens as birds ? 💕

Poor Truly, and how scary for you! :hugs
She’s ok, crazy geegee!

Meanwhile I was worried I missed Little Grey tonight, but she was in hen house A and Misty was in Hen House B in a nest box. Seems anything goes tonight in the hen houses, so I left the door between the two rooms open - it’s mild and I don’t want it too warm in there.

:goodpost:

I use a hand cart to move the logs and then I sort of tip them into the Chicken Palace and wiggle them into location. It is a good workout!
I want to put the fence energizer on a log - it is currently on an upturned bucket but I worry it isn't stable enough.
I love those cinder block structures - very clever - but I worry about the tipping over issue, Everything in the Chicken Palace is on a hill - quite a steep hill - so to get a flat surface I would have to do some digging.
I wiped out on the hill yesterday just outside the Chicken Palace trying to hot wire that area against the foxes. The combination of ice, mud and the slope was too much and down I went. Bloody nose. I am glad the Princesses were locked inside their Palace or they might have tried eating my nose off my face!

Tax: Bernie says - Who, me?
