He's only a year old and I've not seen him molt before.

Isn't it a bit early for their spring molt?? Turkeys molt both spring and fall (at least wild turkeys do) What is his usual spring molt time???

It is. Lobo, our husky male loves snacking on the turkey feathers. And Lobo has never harmed a bird to get the feathers, all he has do is walk over near their coop.
