She is still doing ok then in the barn - I was thinking of her today. This is why I am stressing about my broody girl - I thought I had another 4 weeks to get things done.
But, nope - they march to their own drum/beat, not my plans!!![]()

With the Bigs it was mix and match. I prefer the way they do the orders over other hatcheries since you can get a proper tribe instead of the over-bloated flocks of 15 other hatcheries seem to force.Oh I am so eggcited to see them! Does meyers have a minimum per breed order? Or can you mix and match?
I've cleaned 2 today...my face is quite willing to stay clear.Oh, the fluff. Such fine fluff. It makes thee want to bury thy face in it. Until thou realizest that there is a cloaca right there on its behind.
That sounds quite fair.I've cleaned 2 today...my face is quite willing to stay clear.
I am a bit annoyed there is a 3 chick min per breed with Hoover / Peavey Mart. I have yet to make up my mind on what I will get if any. With the Bigs it was mix and match. That's ridiculous.I am a bit annoyed there is a 3 chick min per breed with Hoover / Peavey Mart. I have yet to make up my mind on what I will get if any.
Wow they Ute are growing! I forgot how fast they grow.Mother Nature is menopausal. You have to expect hot flashes and cold flashes....possible conflicting with each other and changing like a coin spins....
Cuddle puddle.View attachment 3758307They still like hanging out on "mama". Wing feathers on the rhodies have gotten much bigger. Both rocks and the australorp seem to be slow feathering. I've read that the barring is crisper when the feathers come in slowly. As I recall from Hector's growth, he was slower than the rest too....then BOOM, covered over night.
I can feel that glare from hundreds of miles of cable away.Trapped!
First let me remind everyone, no chickens were injured during this event. 2 are very very cross with me, but no one was hurt. 2 were merely "inconvenienced".
Sunday was beautiful here. It was a great day to be a free range chicken and 4 of my 6 chickens really enjoyed it.
We were very busy yesterday but I left the girls out unsupervised. I did not have the heart to keep them locked in. I left the side door open the night before so they could be out when the automated doors opened.
When we arrived home I had a special snack for the ladies. So I went out onto the deck to share it with them. 2 chickens ran onto the deck to great me, Glynda and Lady Featherington. No one else came. So I called Phyllis, as always she came running. I could see Hattie under the magnolia tree. But no Aurora or Sydney.
I called "chook chook chook" to just try and find them. I eventually heard scratching in the main coop so I pulled up the cameras to check. I saw Aurora and Sydney scratching in the coop. I thought they must have preferred scratching in the coop to being outside. They love scratching in the straw at times.
Then Aurora went into the middle nest box where everyone has been laying their eggs and started throwing the straw out of the nest box. Aurora likes to lay her eggs in a bare box. So I thought she must be getting ready to lay. I figured I needed to get any eggs out of the box before she breaks them.
I go over and open the nest box. Sydney and Aurora immediately start yelling at me from inside the coop. I figure they are mad at me for "stealing" the eggs. I close the door and go back about my business.
A little while later I go out to change the water in their waterer. I open the door to the main coop and there are Sydney and Aurora, still in the coop. They are yelling at me like there is no tomorrow. That is when I notice, The automated coop door never opened. They were trapped in the coop all day.
I let them out and ran to TSC to get a new battery. I got the door working again just before dusk. Sydney and Aurora yelled at me until the door opened. Then they went back about their business.
Knowing they were angry with me I decided to try and bribe the two of them with mealworms just before bedtime. Here they are enjoying A LOT of mealworms.

That sapphire gem is gorgeous, looks like my Azurs - but they say they might get brown eggs so it can’t be a leghorn in there, my Azurs have a 1 in 100 chance of white eggs with their leghorn background.I'm also getting a couple of each of these, too:
Sapphire Gem (they only had 1 'available'. On hatch day, I may see if they have extra and add a couple more.
And a few of these: EEs
And 2 of these:
Black Copper Marans:
They don't say 'french', but there appears to be a bit of fuzz on the picture of the BCM....so we will see!
