Prefect eggs for hatching

So I grabbed Henny and Marty (I think it’s her egg) eggs this morning, and since I have to waste the eggs anyways (I have everyone on Panacur to de-worm them all as per the Vet), I cracked them to check the quality. I put one of the Azur’s beside for comparison (the lay small eggs)

Shells are rock hard (yay Marty!)

And check out this perfect bullseye on Marty’s egg!

I was almost guilty for wasting it, but I cannot hatch any more eggs. Not if my niece will be doing her school hatch again.

The other feed store I used to use switched their supplier to Jones brand layer, my ladies wouldn’t eat it.

When I went to the Hi-Pro 17% Layer pellets from Peavey Mart, I was worried they would pitch a fit, but they really like it. Chickens….. never know with them.


Also the Hi-Pro has more calcium than the Jones brand.

Also the Hi-Pro smells so darn good! I think they have brewers yeast in it - it smells great!

The Kalmbach Flock feed smells delicious. I always want to have a nibble. I think it is oregano.

Supposedly if the feed is not safe for humans then you shouldn't give it to the birds.

Well I am still giving calcium to Larry, Blanche, Marty (only an eighth of a tablet to Marty), and Petunia - I have not seen her in the nest box today yet. This worries me.

And I didn’t have the heart to pluck the whole feather out, it was one of those huge ones which would have been terrible for him if I hauled it out, so I just broke it off where it was broken.

Awww, I loved that big ole fancy tail feather - you took that flashy part of him off!

And sweet little Flopsy (or was it twister?) She just wanted to preen and lay some loving on Mr. P....to woo him around to being HER man!!
